She's way, way distracted. But she'll attempt to help.

"Umm, hey Parker." Annette shuffled her foot a little. "So...I've been missing these gun clubs." ~~cause mun is a little dense and totally forgot about them.~~

Parker gave her a sardonic look. "So, yes?" ~~and it didn't happen last week because RL + plottiness = space cadet~~

That was an ugly look, and even after they were girlfriends and stuff last night at Caritas. Geeze. Annette frowned.

"Just saying I need a gun."

Parker studied her a moment longer, then shrugged, expression easing. "No problem. This way. We use semi-automatic target pistols in here. Have you ever used a gun before?"

Parker's distracted, yay. For at least the next few minutes.

Annette followed along. "No. Not exactly. Not unless you count water-guns."

Parker shook her head, smiling a tiny amount. "Uh, no. Not even close." She handed over a round of ammo to Annette, then held up an unloaded gun. "That's the ammunition, 9mm. This," she opened the slide, slid it across, then opened the chamber, "is how to check that it's unloaded." She handed it over to Annette. "Why are you interested in learning about guns, anyway?"

"Ooh, it's heavy. The ammunition." She watched Parker intently then met her eyes at her question. "Uh, it might be helpful in my career choice. Later on. When I graduate. Or before."

"Oh? Which choice is that?" Parker took the gun, loaded it, unloaded it, then handed it back to Annette. "See if you can do that. The safety's on, just don't move that lever."

Staring down at the contraption, okay, the gun, Annette did her best to mimick what Parker had showed her. "I'm not sure yet, but I'm sure it will deal with espionage." Yeah.

Annette looked down at the safety lever. "So, if I move it, then I can shoot? And did I load this thing right? What about a silencer?"

"Interesting." Parker wouldn't have picked out Annette as likely for that, but she was in Spy Tech class, and appearances were deceiving. "You did fine. And yes, if you flick it down, the safety disengages, and the bullet can make contact in the chamber to be shot." She made a face. "Silencers aren't used here-- for one thing, they throw off your aim a certain percentage no matter what. Not a good idea to learn with them on. For another, they're illegal in some states in the U.S., considering what some people would use them for. After that, they're expensive, so the school wouldn't spring for them even if we were allowed, and we're all underage-- silencers are only allowed if you're over 21."

"Got it." She paid attention very well. "I would never want one anyway, was just wondering what they looked like up close and personal. Of course," She said, looking down at the gun in her hand. "This is a first for me too."

Her eyes met Parkers. "When do I get to test drive it?"

"Now." Parker grabbed her own gun, and lead Annette over to one shooting alley. "Okay. Three things you need to have right if you're going to shoot: stance, grip, and sights." She took up the correct shooting stance, held her gun, and sighted the target, firing off two bullets. "Try to copy the way I'm standing now, and my grip on the gun."

"Stance, grip, sights, and I'm pretty sure I should be writing this down." Annette looked Parker over ~~not dirty~~ and copied her. Her feet were braced slightly apart and she held her gun out with her right hand, her left cupping just underneath.

"This isn't going to knock me on my ass is it? Cause that happens on TV all the time."

Parker smirked. "This is a 9-mill, not a .357 Magnum. You're standing correctly, although--" She tapped Annette's shoulder. "Roll these forward a little; that way your body can absorb the recoil a little better. It'll force your arm back, but not as much." She checked Annette's feet, and nodded. "Good. Bend your knees a little. Okay, the last thing is the sights-- and if you need a handout for this, I can get you one," she added dryly. "The notch at the end of the barrel, and the raised bit here at the end-- line them up with the target. You won't be able to do all three at once for long, our eyes aren't that kind of stereoscopic. But it'll get you started; after that, concentrate on the sight at the end of the barrel."

"Okay," she did as Parker said and arched her shoulders forward a bit. She then bent her knees, looking at Parker to verify it was enough. She then stared down the barrel of her gun and located the notch and lined it up with the raised part at the end.

She did her best to concentrate, she was excited after all, getting to shoot her first gun and everything. "Okay, Parker, I think I've got it. Tell me when to fire cause my finger seems to be shaking a little bit here on the trigger."

Parker nodded at her stance, then resisted the urge to facepalm at the shaking. "Right. Ease your finger off the trigger. You're going to be pulling this back in one smooth motion-- and it'll keep firing as you pull the trigger. Okay? Aim for the center of the target. Nothing fancy." She smirked a little. "And don't worry if you miss it completely the first time. Most people do."

It will keep firing? Annette knew nothing about guns or their kinds. But she most certainly trusted Parker. She eased her finger back and clarified, "Just one motion. Pull and hold."

Swallowing, Annette stared down the sight and made sure she was even aiming for the target. When she was confident, she pulled the trigger, and instantly grit down on her jaw.

Parker tilted her head to check, then nodded. "Close. I think you missed the target by only an inch or so. That's fine. Re-adjust your sights a little to the left." She raised her gun, and demonstrated again. "You don't need to re-cock the gun, or do anything else, for it to fire again." She fired twice, so Annette could get the idea, then stepped back out of the way. "Your turn."

This was harder than she thought. She just assumed you picked up a gun, aimed it pretty much where you wanted it to shoot, and that was it.

This class was pretty damn educational.

"Right." Back in place, she set her sights again, more to the left this time, bent her knees, and fired twice, just as Parker had done. "I feel like I just want to keep firing until the chambers spent."

"You can do that, if you want. But stop then, you'll want to shake out your fingers-- the vibration builds up." Parker stepped back, and cocked an eyebrow. "See what you can do."

Annette managed a slight grin then repeated her moves until the ammunition was gone. And yeah, her fingers were vibrating like crazy, halfway up her arm as well.

"I had no idea how much fun this could be."

Parker grinned, reminded of Sokka. "I think it's a good thing for anyone to know, whether or not they use a gun regularly. It's too useful not to. And yeah, it is fun." She cocked her head at Annette. "The gun range is open any time during the week, you just have to be careful. Any questions?"

"Not right now, but knowing me I will come up with some. Thanks, Parker. I'll try not to miss anymore clubs."
