Chess club 3/22 5pm FHT

Ami welcomed everyone, a bit nervously.

"Hi everyone. Sorry i was missing for two meetings. Thank you very much to the lovely Mr. Aziraphale who covered for me. I have handouts again, if anyone needs them."

She looked around.

"There are cookies and muffins in the back, as well as tea and soda. Now. Lets play."

"Got it." He moved a pawn.

Ami moved a pawn as well, shadowing his move.

Billy decided to try clearing his mind like he had in meditating, to see if it helped.

He moved his pawn again.

Ami moved her now free bishop to take his second pawn. And smiled sweetly.

He would so kick her ass in tic tac toe. He smirked and moved a knight.

Good thing knights could jump. "Oooh, bold move."

"Sometimes you gotta take chances."

"Indeed." Ami moved the bishop to threaten the queen. "Indeed"

Billy made a ~~handwavy~~ move that got his queen out of danger.

"Hm. Good." Ami took his pawn with her pawn to the right of it. "en passant".

~~sure hope i spelled that right...~~

"No fair speaking French."

"Sorry... It's just what that move is called."

"Oh. Duh. Thanks."

Ami grinned. "It is used if you went with the pawn over two squares, and are next to a pawn that you could have taken had you only gone one square."

Billy looked over the board. "Ah, I see."

"Sorry, just showing off. Have you learned castling yet?"

"You go ahead and show off." he encouraged her. "No I can't say as I have."

Ami moved her knight. "Alright, see how i have nothing between the king and the rook? And i have not moved either yet? Well i can next time it is my turn move them like this." she demonstrated and then put the two figures back "Thus protecting the king as needed."

Billy watched carefully, nodding.

"Your move."

Billy's next move was, what he hoped, the opening of a gambit that would put her in check.

Ami saw it but as she was going to do the castling next, she did that instead of parrying the gambit.
