Guitar, Period 4, Thursday

"Today?" El said, walking towards the center of the classroom with his familiar chink-chink-ing.

"We're going to talk about our heroes. Specifically? Our guitar heroes."

"My guitar heroes, the men who taught me the most about how to play, were my father and my grandfather. Like me, they were traveling mariachis. Rode all over Mexico to make money to feed me, my mother, and my brother.

Now, it might seem a bit useless to tell you about my guitar heroes when they're so personal. But I? Want to know about your guitar heroes. Who most inspires you to shred and pluck like no other?

Next time we discuss history, I want you all to do a presentation about your guitar heroes, along with performing a song by them. Now, tell me who your guitar hero is, and briefly, why they are.

Then get out to the library and start researching.

"My guitar hero is my daddy." Miley smiled. "He's played for me for as long as I can remember and he taught me how to play when I was just a kid."

Chad considered saying the guy who first introduced him to his guitar, but decided against it, because, one, it was too similar to the Senor's story and, two, he didn't have anything to call him but 'that one mariachi guy my mother may or may not have been sleeping with.'

So he just went with saying Les Claypool. Because very few do the poor, neglected bass as much justice, in his opinion.

Nadia thought for awhile. "Pip," she said finally. "Because he can apparently manifest guitars when he's singing, so he gave me mine."
