Alpha Beta Gremlin Meeting, Tuesday [6:00 PM FHT]

Summer greeted everyone as they arrived for the latest Alpha Beta Gremlin meeting. She might seem a bit distracted this time. This was likely because she hated leaving her unnamed bunny alone in her dorm room. Still, she figured she ought to be here.

"Okay, so today we're going to continue our discussion of the service project. In case any of you forgot, we're going to help improve the nature trails in the park," she explained. "But we really should talk about a social activity. Maybe a slumber party or spa day this weekend?"

She pointed out a table with food on it. "As always, there is pizza."

"It's not going to bite you." Alanna said, feeding small pieces to Faithful.

She looked at the pie skeptically, she's been off the poison snooper but it doesn't mean she'd take to dubious foodstuff immediately. Irulan poked at it, "Is it... delicious?"

"Very. Both Faithful and I agree." "And it's not poisoned." The cat said with a smirk. Alanna rolled her eyes.

Irulan blinked at the cat, forming panicked and inane statements in her head.

"Oh," she said out loud, staring at the cat, "Then I shall taste it."

"Stop that." Alanna told Faithful. "Sorry, he's rude and obnoxious. In other words: a cat. Sorry, don't think I know your name?"

"Princess Royal Irulan Corrino," she said but couldn't go on and said, "Your cat spoke."

Alanna bowed. "Sir Alanna of Trebond. And yes, he does that sometimes. If you offer him food, he usually shuts up, your highness."

Irulan took a bit of pizza and fed it to the cat, "Do you hail from a planet or a country?"

Faithful? Made the piece disappear almost instantly. "A country in another world, your highness" Alanna weakly explained. "Tortall to be more specific, but I doubt it rings a bell."

Irulan returned the smile, "I find I don't know most places people speak of, I am now convinced that the claim rulers of the Known Universe is a conceit."

The cat burped delicately. "Thank you. And the idea of anyone being the ruler of the Known Universe? Is silly." "As the cat so eloquently put it, yeah. I think we have hundreds of different places represented here."

"I see that now," Irulan said with an amused shake of head, she really will just have to get used to the fact that there are talking cats. "Was your knighthood a title passed down, Sir Alanna?"

"Um...not really, no, your highness. Only nobles can train to be knights, but not all do. My father was a knight in nothing more than name." Alanna said with a touch of biterness. "My brother didn't even train and remains simply Lord Thom."

Irulan sensed the bitterness, "But you wish to be a knight in more than name?"

"Of course your highness. I am the first lady knight in over a century. I worked hard for my shield, and finally got it this December. I like justice."

"Congratulations, that is no mean feat, I confess there are few women Sadaukars and even fewer noblewomen who fight." She frowned, "If it is to happen, I would be the first woman Empress."

Alanna grinned. "Best of lucky, your highness. There are no Tortallian women in the army or any military. No one even knew I was a girl until I got my shield."

She smiled at that, "I like your method, unfortunately I do not think I can fool the people the same way."

Alanna laughed. "Yeah, it wasn't the easiest thing, your highness. Men are so .... pig headed sometimes."

"I can tell you a thousand tales of that too... would you believe that men are allowed a harem while we women can't?" Not that she wants one... much but equal rights you know.

Alanna nodded. "Not in Tortall, but in other countries in my world too, your highness. My mother was 16 when she married my 50 year old father. She had no other options." She paused. "She was 17 when she died. I'm already almost two years older then she ever got to be."

"Yes, political marriages are a norm in my corner of the world too -- I have resigned myself to that fact. There is no other alternative for me in that regard."

Alanna smiled a thin smile. "For me as well, so I decided to take my future into my own hands. Father is dead, twin doesn't give a damn, and being a knight means no one wants to marry me anyway."

"Destiny in your own hands," Irulan said, trying not to sound envious.

"Well...not fully. But I don't fit into any of society's groups, so I have some odd freedoms."
