Advanced Tactics, Tuesday, 7th Period

The Dangershop, students found as they entered, had been reconfigured as a sort of space-age class room. Large display boards lined the front wall of the room, and small tables were set up in rows. The tables differed from the average, however, in that the surfaces weren’t simple wood – they were flat-panel screens, currently active. A hex pattern displayed across them, and small model ships had been placed in the appropriate locations. Those students paying closer attention would have noticed they were scale models of Colonial Vipers and Battlestars, as well as Cylon baseships and heavy raiders. Protected by two of the baseships was a single ship, one the students wouldn’t have recognized from their flying lessons two weeks prior.

“As you come in,” Honor began, standing at the front of the room, “please choose a partner to pair off against. We’ll be playing a sort of chess today, and each person will need an opponent.

“This exercise,” she continued, “is based on tactical information provided by the Colonial fleet. Those seated on the Colonial side of the table, pay close attention to the single Cylon ship, off to the side. That is what is known as a ‘Resurrection ship,’ and it is believed that it allows dying Cylons to download their programming into a new body. It lacks heavy armaments, but is well-shielded, and protected by the two baseships you see before you. Your objective is to use your Battlestar and Vipers to destroy that ship…and survive to tell the tale. For this exercise, you are limited to one Battlestar, and 42 Vipers. Seven of those Vipers are the older Mark II models. Please plan accordingly.

“For those of you seated on the Cylon side, your objective will be to protect the Resurrection ship to the best of your ability. You already know the armaments and specifications of the Colonial Battlestar and the Vipers. Not only will you have your baseship armaments, but you will also have two groups of heavy raiders at your disposal.

“Both should consider the information carefully while planning your assault.”

Honor smiled, folding her arms across her chest. “After you have completed one engagement, you will then swap sides. We will then watch replays of these engagements on the big screen.” She indicated the big screens behind her with a nod of her head. “Popcorn will be provided.”

Her grin widened. “Let’s be about it, ladies and gentlemen.”

Peter sat down on the Cylon side and started planning his strategy.

Schrodinger sat across from Peter and began to look over his troops.

This boy had lived through the war that had, in the end, created him.

He wanted that kind of person was made of.

Pip sat down on the Colonial side, pulled out a pack of cigarette, and placed them near at hand.

Nicotene helped his concentration.

Sokka sat down at the station in the back, on the Colonials side, and chuckled maniacally to himself while trying to figure out the controls.

Teddy took a seat on the Colonials side as well and tried to ignore the maniacal laughter.

"Ma'am? I'm sorry for having missed class. I was a statue."

"Yes, ma'am. Again. I'm lucky like that. And yes, sounds fair." Alanna paused. "Can you spell that?"

Alanna shrugged and wrote down the name. "I'm hoping just bad luck. At least no one doddled on me this time, ma'am." As far as she knew.

"Doodled." Alanna corrected herself. "Last time someone drew on me in lipstick, ma'am."

"My lady?" Peter said, approaching Honor after class. "I wished to apologise for missing class on the 6th."

"I'm sure I would have, ma'am, especially if they are anything like Jedi starfighters," Peter replied, smiling back. He nodded. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't. It's just getting on winter there and bandits come out of the mountains."
