The students met in the classroom today thanks to ~~handwavy~~ notification by E-mail. "Sorry about that," Captain Liberty greets them. "Couldn't get the stupid simulation to work. So that'll be next week, and on the plus side, at least you don't have to wear your costumes, right?" It might be clear she's a little bit frustrating about the stupid simulation.

"Every villain has a plan. Usually they're diabolical, or at least they're called diabolical while the superhero's standing there going 'Seriously?' You get used to it," she assures them. "These plans are most likely things like trying to throw down some wrath on a city by using some sort of machine created by some scientist with too much time on his hands, or trying to carve your name into the moon. They don't always make sense, which is why you have to slap the bad guy's hand and say "NO", because people should not suffer from their overblown stupidity.

"Today you're going to pair up again, and each of you will come up with some sort of diabolical plan. Be as creative as possible- the real bad guys will be. The other person will try to find holes in your plan and figure out how to foil you. Then you get to switch off. You know the drill by now."

And while they're working, she'll spend her time stewing about technology.

Katara grinned and tried to mimic Zuko's speech. "I shall capture the Avatar! And then my father will take me back from exile, and the Fire Nation shall defeat the other three and rule the world!"

She wasn't very good at being diabolical.

"Aww, don't do that," Peter replied.

He wasn't being very good at thwarting either.

"Why not?" Katara asked. "I must capture the Avatar to regain my honor!"

"Sure, you say that now," Peter said. "But what about the next step? Reach your goal and I think you'll find life is kind of empty."

Katara paused. "You don't think ruling the world will keep me busy?"

"It's a role that's largely cerimonial," Peter replied.

"Nuh uh!"

"See?" Peter said. "They don't tell you that in bad guy school. That's how they get you to do all the hard work."

Katara frowned. "Who gets the reward then?"

"The person who set you up to this," Peter said. "Whoever told you this was a good idea."

"No one set me up! I am diabolical all on my...own?"

"Oh yeah?" Peter asked. He made air quotes. "So nobody told you about this 'Avatar' thing? Just picked the idea out of the wind?"

"Everyone knows about the Avatar," Katara said. "Everyone in my world at least. He's supposed to bring balance to the elements and be the bridge between our world and the spirit world."

Yeah. She'd forgotten about the being evil.

"Really?" Peter asked. "How's he going to do it?"

"We're not sure yet," Katara said thoughtfully. "First he has to master all the elements."

"Something tells me that's going to be easier than getting people to listen to you," Peter said with a grin. "Editorial 'you' there, by the way."

She shrugged. "Maybe. But he'll do it. He kinda has to." Katara paused. "...I stopped being the villain there, I think. Guess you win?"

"Guess so," Peter said. "Not bad for my first try."
