Home Economics, Tuesday, period 1

"Good morning students," Emma greeted them as they shuffled inside this lovely Tuesday morning. She was sitting on her desk, holding a pink cupcake in her hand. Today she was wearing leather pants and a bra and not much else. "Today we are making cupcakes." Of course, when she said 'we' she meant 'you'.

She gestured towards the tables which were set up with everything needed for cupcake making. There was even a small oven on each table. There were also many, many different cupcake toppings and ingredients. As many as you could possibly imagine, in fact.

River didn't need a recipe. She felt it limited her creativity. Still, she did seem to have a very precise idea of what she wanted to achieve.

6 approached. "Good morning, River." He was already blushing slightly. Damn her hotness.

River smiled back, looking cheerful. "Morning. Want to assist?"

"Yes, very much," 6 said. "I hope your weekend was enjoyable?"

"It was. I visited my brother." River glanced at him. "And yours?"

"The usual," 6 said, without getting into what that was: hanging around in his room, writing manifestos.

"Oh." River handed him the flour. "Manifestos?"

6 swallowed. "I've mentioned before, then?" He was fairly certain he hadn't.

"They seem to be on your mind a lot," River replied vaguely.

That was 6 withdrawing into himself. "Ah."

River handed him some raisins. "Add these?"

6 did as he was asked. He looked at River nervously. Such a delicate creature. So damned unnerving. What was it about her that drew him to her, like a moth to the...

Oh God, she could probably hear him thinking this.

River looked inside the oven, then grinned at 6. "Don't burn yourself."

"Am I likely to get close enough for that to be a danger?" 6 asked.

"Depends on what you chose to do," River replied and handed him the cardamom.

6 kind of gawked at her. Was she honestly implying he had a chance? Or was she just messing with his head, like everyone did eventually. If only they'd let him out.

He didn't even notice the cardamom in his hand for a full half-minute.

River blushed a little, suddenly feeling cruel. She hadn't meant to tease him, not really, it was just so... easy. "You like cardamom?" she asked.

"I'm not particularly disinclined toward it," 6 said. He should ask her out.

No, no he shouldn't.

Yes, he should.

Blast. Make up your mind, man.

River's eyes widened a little. She stirred the cupcake batter, staring down into it. "I'm seeing someone," she said quietly. "But am flattered by the attention."

"Oh," 6 said, clearly so devastated by the rejection that he failed to notice that he hadn't actually asked her out yet. "I, um... terribly sorry."

He looked down. "He's a lucky fellow."

Feeling a little awkward, River added, hoping it would cheer him up: "Otherwise I'd go out with you." She continued stirring the batter.

"You do as you like," 6 said, drawing back his resolve. "Do we require further ingredients?"

River frowned and showed 6 a tin. "Squid?"

*swoon*

RESOLVE, dammit! Strength! Ownership of oneself! Damn her and her squid. "As you wish."
