Rose entered the classroom, still tired but refreshed from a full night's sleep. "Hello, class, hope you had a wonderful weekend. Continuing from last week's lesson, still talking about the idiot box, this time we will talk about TV and music. You can imagine how influential this became when they've combined the two.

"If you've been reading the syllabus, you know this is one of the major projects of your class, by next week, I'd like you to create your own MTV. Criterias for grading would be creativity, teamwork, song choice, etc., I've assigned you to two groups, I'll give you time to discuss the project later. Speaking of MTV, let's delve into a little history, shall we? In 1981, this little network almost single handedly changed the face of the music industry. And I mean, radically, radically changed. Overnight this little network no one knew became a household name. If you want new, fresh music, if you want to produce a 'cool' image MTV was and is the place to launch it.

"They became keepers of the industry, took small time muscians and made them more popular face than they ever were. MTV has also been, to no surprise, credited for encouraging bad behaviour in teenagers. Do you lot agree with this statement? Do you think that television, movies and MTV have any influence in our behaviour?"

Rose looked to them, "Go on, what do you think?"

"And snarking. Um...if I claimed I was battling aliens that are trying to take over the human race and got hit in the a-uh-back by a goat?"

"I'd believe you about the aliens," She said then raised an eyebrow, "It's the goat I'm having a hard time believing."

Marco gaped for a second. "Um...well, it's kinda complicated, but we were trying to get friendly with it and it decided it really, really hated me. Me, not the four legged blue freak or bird-boy, but me, poor little Marco who can't get out of the way fast enough." He paused. "It may have been a female goat."

Rose smirked, "Must be it then, well, I'm glad you escaped from that with all your limbs intact."

Marco grinned. "Thankfully, dignity isn't a limb. And the bruise was gone by the time I got h-home."

Rose noted the stutter but didn't comment on it, they all had secrets.

"If it was I'd long ago lost all my limbs," She said with a roll of her eyes remembering her own misadventures.

"Yeah, and that would suck because I think it's kinda hard to teach limbless. So um...make up work? Cause I think my story about the goat was kinda cool and I have a few hundred others..."

"If you mean by cool you meant sort of hilarious and pathetic, I'd accept that," Rose said with an amused smile, "Anyway, make-up work... how about a paper on your cultural icons who they are and how they relate to you?"

Marco considered this. "Can I write about my idea to have Bradd Pitt play me in the Hollywood hit that's I'm hoping to get made eventually?"

"Why, Marco," she said with twinkling eyes, "I didn't know you had such taste anything about Brad Pitt is always welcome."

Marco grinned. "Awesome. So uh...about the aliens? If you think I'm crazy, pretend it was just a funny story?"

Her first thought was, Pffft, of course I believe in aliens Rose chucked that, wouldn't be a proper professor if she went around doing that, would she? So, instead she said:

"Don't worry, Marco, I know you're not lying about aliens."

Marco head-tilted at Rose. "I'm not sure if that reasures me or not."

"How so?" She looked at Marco, "You're not one of those folks who think all aliens are out to get us, are you?"

"Oh h-yeah, no way. There's plenty of non-lethal like aliens. And some of them look like giant can-openers and are still peaceful and are too stupid too laugh when I have trouble opening a pickle jar."

"Well, that's a relief to hear, seein' one of my best mates an alien."

"Yeah, mine too. If your definition of "mate" is friend. Except he never quite gets my humor and is oddly obsessed with television, commercial, and Cinnamon Bun."

Rose barely stopped rolling her eyes, "Yes, my yankee student, 'mate' does mean friend," As much as she used to wish it also meant what he'd been implying. "Before my friend... changed he used to be this sarcastic, annoying man with a propensity to insult all species at the drop of the hat."
