Spy Tech, Class Nine (03/14)

Wednesday, March 14, Period One

Once the students were all assembled, M stood in front of her desk, the screen behind her projecting the current absence list. She surveyed the group before her, looking stern.

"Before we begin, I want to call attention to the names on the screen. I will need excuses for your absence by the end of the week. Written excuses are preferable, and ones that actually provide a legitimate reason for missing class would be ideal." Her expression suggested that she didn't expect to achieve that 'ideal'.

"Now, we will begin our lecture."

Then M did something rather unexpected.

She reached up, grabbed the skin of her neck beneath her collar, and pulled her face off.

Revealing Nadia Santos underneath.

"Right!" Nadia said brightly. "Today we're talking about masks. The technology behind the creation and maintenance of highly detailed and realistic latex masks, such as this one," she held up the M mask with a Home Shopping Network sort of flair, "has been greatly improved in the last several years. These masks are now light-weight, skin-tight, breathable, and comfortable, and most importantly, very realistic. Facial recognition software won't see through them without x-ray capabilities. The human eye doesn't stand a chance."

Nadia set down the mask and grinned. "They can even be layered." And she reached up for her collar.

And pulled off a second mask. The man beneath the mask smirked at the students, and moved behind the desk to produce a box, which he set up on M's desk and opened to reveal a high-tech-looking machine.

"This is the Facemaker. When an image such a photograph or video footage is fed into it, the Facemaker produces this highly realistic three-dimensional latex mask, just as 'Nadia' showed you. Since the material is breathable enough to be comfortable for long periods, and sturdy enough to stand up to physical exertion, it's a popular resource for our field agents. Coupled with the voice changer technology you've already studied, this is the most effective method of disguise we've developed to date."

The man stepped away from the machine. "Which should serve to remind you once again, that you can't always believe everything you see."

And then the man pulled off a third mask. Oh look. It's Marty.

"Your mission, which you have no choice but to accept, is to pair off with another student and create masks of each other," Marty instructed. "However one should always remember that just because you have a mask it doesn't mean you can pass yourself off as that person. It also takes a good deal of acting talent and mimicry to pass yourself off as your subject. So also take the time to get to know your partner and watch their habits. And before you have any questions I just have one more thing to add."

Marty reached up for his collar and...

Yes, removed one last mask, to reveal M’s face.

"Perhaps the cardinal rule in espionage, is to always have a healthy suspicion of what others are trying to pass off as the truth, and to keep in mind that your own senses can be fooled as well. A good spy knows this, and can use it to his advantage, in both the act of disguising himself and detecting it in others." She looked around the room. "Your homework assignment for is to use the masks you create in class today to convince one person outside of this class that you are in fact the person whose identity you duplicate today. So choose your partners wisely, and make certain that you know enough about them that you can successfully mimic their behavior and actions. I believe one of you already had some recent practice at this."

M looked at Annette. "We have a test next week, so you’ll have two weeks to complete this assignment. I then expect you to report back on your success or failure. And yes, I will know whether or not you’re telling me the truth."

[About the Assignment: Just to be sure that it’s clear – pair up with someone in the class, and essentially switch identities with them. You only need to convince one other person outside the class that you are in fact the person whose face you’re wearing. You can RP it or handwave it, just check OOCly with your “target” in advance to make sure you get the reaction you want from it. Keep it fun and angst-free too, please. And despite what M says, you can make completely inappropriate choices for your partner if you like. And many thanks to Nadia and Marty ~~and John Voight~~ for their help!]

"Oh." She said, staring at him. And she blinked cause his chest was like...whoa. Hot. And it made her think of their kiss. And...whoa.

"Okay. Um. This might be a little cold going on." Annette scooped up the latex mixture and started to spread it over his shoulders and down onto his chest.

"Oh. My."

"Gah! Cooold." he said, trying to stay still. He grinned. "Oh my what?"

"Sorry," she said a bit sheepishly. Annette continued to smooth it over him to just right below his chest. "Oh my um, will you sit up just a little bit more?" She needed to smooth it over his shoulders and around the top of his back.

"I hope this works." But she was enjoying herself while she was trying to make it.

"Here, I'll just stand up. It'll make it easier." he said, getting out of the chair. "Even if it doesn't work you at least to get see me with my shirt off. So it won't be a total loss."

She chuckled, "Right. Not a total loss. I might even pin it on my wall so I can see it anytime I want." Which might sound a little weird.

Annette scrunched up her nose and moved behind him to work the latex mixture over his upper back. "This stuff stinks."

"If that's what you want I'll be willing to just hang around you shirtless whenever you want." said Dick. "I'm much better than a latex mold."

"Yeah, well it's me you're spreading it on." he said. "I'm definitely going to need a shower after this."

Her hands stilled for a second. "That's a very tempting offer. But you would have to move in with me in order to do that. Cally might not appreciate it." She teased.

"Yeah, but you got to let it set and stuff. So no moving while it's drying." Annette walked back around to the front of him and studied her work. "Not bad. Not bad at all. Now just don't move."

"I'm sure Cally won't mind. We can give each other tips on girls." he said. He would have nodded but he was too afraid to move. "I hope this doesn't have a duct tape thing going on when it comes off."

Annette raised her brows at that. "Yeah, especially when Mac visits."

Oooh. She totally hadn't thought about that. "It...might?"

This not moving thing sucked. He felt like a robot. "If it hurts will you kiss me to make it better?"

Giving him a crooked grin, Annette replied, "I will. But not in class. Cause last week with Anders, well -" Okay, nevermind. She was not going to talk about that again.

"What? Did M yell at Anders for kissing someone last week?" asked Dick. "I was kind of zoning out most of class."

"She didn't yell at uhhhhhhs'no. She didn't. Wow. I just noticed, you have big hands." She carefully lifted Dick's right hand and flattened her hand to his.

Annette was lucky that Dick was easily distracted when he could make dirty jokes in his head. "I do have big hands, don't I?"

He was also kind of hoping that when this thing came off it stung a little. The pain was worth the kissing.

"Yes, you do. Nicely shaped too." She nodded. "Nails are nice."

Annette let go of his hand and tested the very edges of the latex high on his torso. "Umm. It's sort of peeling here, but I don't think it's quite ready."

"Man, I hope the smell washes off. I don't want to go around smelling like a doctor's office." he said, wrinkling up his nose.

...Which made Annette think of Christian. Dear heavens what was wrong with her? Her hormones were going crazy lately! "It's Dick's fault!" She blurted out totally by accident.

Dick raised an eyebrow. "What did I do?!"

Whatever it was, it was probably his fault. But he liked to know what he did.

"What?" Annette whined. "Oh my god. Did I say that out loud? Oh my god."

She moved around him so he couldn't see her flaming cheeks and she just stood there, staring at his back.

"It's your fault...that you're not...any shorter! Yeah."

"Um...I'm sorry?" he apologized. Of course he didn't really believe that was the reason she said that. "You sure I didn't do anything else?"

"My hormones. You are messing them all up and I am not sure what to do about it!" She barely whispered on a whine. If he heard her? It would be a miracle, really.

"Sorry. You didn't do anything. I promise. Cross my heart. Let me peel this off." She started at the edge of the latex on his back and began to slowly lift it up, sliding her fingers back and forth to work it loose.

All Dick heard was weird squeaky noises. But he brushed it off when Annette started to peel the latex off of him ~~not dirty~~. It didn't exactly hurt but it felt weird.

Of course he was going to said it hurt either way.

"Don't move, Dick. You'll mess it all up and then we'd have to do it again." Biting her bottom lip, she was soon able to get her hands all the way under the latex and smooth them over his shoulders, bringing up the latex with her.

Removing her hands, she came back around to the front of him and started at the edge there, doing the same as the back. Once the latex was completely undone, she said, "Now I have to lift this over your head so bend your knees just a little so I don't have to get on my tippy toes and mess this up. Please?" She smiled at him.

"So short." he said, grinning. He bent down so Annette could take the latex off. "You should know that this was very, very painful. Ow."

"Someone out there somewhere appreciates short girls. I'm sure of it." She laughed at him and tried not to poke him.

The latex came off very easily and she set it aside on the desk to look at it. "I will have to kiss you then because you have been a very good sport." she glanced over at him. "Just not here."
