Abby was pouring over a notebook at a lab table when the students entered. "John, Parker, Zero, Will, Billy, Lana and Hermione all have perfect attendance. Lucas already talked to me about his absence. Everyone else should come see me and have a reason for their absences or a bribe for your teacher."

"Now, today we're going to be working on identifying bodies where there's not much left to the bodies." Abby turned on the overhead to show a skeleton. "Due to method of murder, you're not always able to find fingerprints or identify by facial features. Sometimes you need to use other methods to identify the victim."

Abby gave a lecture on how to identify skeletons and teeth, showing pictures and x rays. Opening the door to the crime scene, Abby grinned at the students. "Let's get to the fun part."

A half collapsed garage stood on a grassy lawn, one wall torn apart and laying in pieces of shrapnel along the ground. "This is the final resting place of two people. Early this morning a pipe bomb went off and destroyed this building and killed the two people inside of it. There wasn't a lot left, so it's up to you guys to find a way to identify the remains and match them up with a file in missing persons. Also, here's a hint, make sure the injuries to the bodies match the injuries consistent with an explosion."

Abby glared at the garage. "There'll be pieces of a skeleton that you'll have to find. The other "dead" body," Abby used finger quotes here. "Is being a big pain and refusing to wear my really nifty skeleton t-shirt. So just pretend Miley is all burned and exploded."

Scattered around the garage and lawn are bones. They'll have fractures and burns consistent with an explosion. The garage itself is creaky but stable.

[Feel free to mod finding bones, bits of skin, pipe bomb making supplies.]

Miley is not wearing a skeleton t-shirt but she is laying on the ground, a piece of the tin roof laying over legs.

[ooc: Miley's not really dead, so normal playing rules apply. Please don't do anything to the character without clearing it with the player first.]

Play with the tools, match the teeth with the records, look at the bones.

Tell Abby what you think happened and who you identified at the crime scene. Also, she's here to talk about your absences.

Miley is dead. It's funny how she keeps sneaking bites of cookies from a bag hidden under the piece of roof.

Parker was thoroughly grossed out. And fascinated. And getting plenty of bad ideas of how to fake people's deaths. Possibly her own.

Parker picked up what looked like a leg bone, then shook her head. "Just when I think it's gotten beyond weird, it gets worse. Eugh." She swallowed hard. "Right."

Cindy Mackenzie

Mac frowned a little. She'd missed class? She couldn't remember not being there at any point.

~~Possibly because while she participated in class, she apparently didn't sign in. *facepalm* Twice.~~

Lana Lang

Lana carefully collected bones and pieces of skin and various pieces of pipe bombs. She made sure to photgraph and label everything concisely.

Lana went over to Miley and smiled at her. "Hey. So... time and cause of death? Injuries? And is there a particular way I'm supposed to ID you?"

Lana carefully began matching the teeth she'd collected with the records. She examined all of the evidence, trying to make sense of what she had.

"Hey." Miley smiled at Lana. "I kicked the bucket at seven AM and my injuries were multiple fractures, contusions and burns. Sadly enough my cause of death was a broken neck that was more like..." Miley put her hands around her neck and shook a little. "...than, you know...boom."

Pointing to a jar that held a set of dentures, Miley grinned. "You get teeth as a parting gift."

Mac crouched down next to Miley, uncapping her pen to take notes. "Hi," she greeted, pretty cheerfully considering she's talking to someone who's supposedly been blown up. "Care to tell me when it was you died?"

"Interesting," Lana said. "So, not caused by the explosion."

She took the jar of dentures and smiled at her again. "Thanks. So, having fun being dead? I see you brought your own snacks."

"Mac?" Abby came over after the lecture. "I looked over my records and it looks like I have class work for you for all the classes. So apparently you win at showing up and lose at signing in. Luckily you're named after my favorite computer so I'll let you off."

After matching the teeth to the records of two of the people there and checking the bones of the 'missing' person, Lana felt fairly confident about her conclusions. "I believe Miley and Fred, as identified by their dental records," she pointed them out in her paperwork, "were murdered before the explosion. Both necks seem to have been broken before any of the other injuries occurred. The explosion was most likely then set to cover up the murder - make it look as if they had an accident as they were assembling a pipe bomb."
