Aly was perched on top of her desk again as she watched the students come into the classroom.

"I hope you didn't miss me too much last week though it sounds like Bridge was an excellent substitute." She grinned at Bridge. "I'm sorry to say I don't have pie for you all. Hopefully you won't hold it against me."

"Today we're going to switch things up a bit. This whole semester we've focused on what it's like from the revolutionaries' standpoint. But I spent the past week in my country looking at things from a different angle - from that of the reigning government."

"So today, in small groups or pairs, I'd like you to react to a scenario as you would if you were the government of a country. Go in with all your guns blazing, try to talk to the dissidents, infiltrate them, try to capture them and ship them off into exile, it's up to you. Once you decide a plan of attack, I'm going to tell you how the revolutionaries react to your plan and you can respond once more."

"I'm sorry to tell all you strictly democratic souls, but today, you're all representatives of a monarchy. Your intelligence service has brought information to you of a lost 'true heir' to the throne being spoken about in the streets. A coalition of mainly merchants - your middle class - has started to form around this supposed heir, and the people of the streets seem to be turning towards that banner."

She grinned. "You all have quite good instincts from the stirring things up side, let's see how you do when your objective is order in your country. Any questions?"

"Well, that's . . . healthier, I guess," Bel said a little uncomfortably. "A little bit."

Anders sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Look, if it really bothers you that much, I'll try and stop, okay?"

"How do you think Phoebe is going to feel about it?" Bel said.

"I think she'd think I had good taste," Anders muttered half to himself. "But yeah, I know . . . it's not fair to her. Look, I'm trying here, okay? It's not just something I can forget. Might be easier for you, but it's kind of hard here."

"I never said it was easy," Bel shot back. "I have to live with what the Source did, too."

Anders opened his mouth to respond and realized he couldn't come up with a decent snarky answer.

And then his sense of guilt kicked in.

"Okay, you've got a point," he conceded. "I'm gonna shut up before I get myself in more trouble. Stupid mouth."

"Probably a good idea to keep it shut," Bel said. Double entendre purely unintentional.

Oh, the hell it was.

"Or keep it busy with other things," Anders retorted.

Bel blinked. "Like, eating," he said. "Or smoking."

"Those too," Anders said cagily. This conversation had gotten far too awkward for his liking, so he apparently felt that it was time to needle Bel a little bit.

~~Not dirty. Woe.~~

Bel's eyes narrowed. "Just keep your hands to yourself. OFF yourself."

"Oh, dude, that is so not fair," protested Anders. "If I gotta feel it when you're . . . having fun, I gotta be able to work it off somehow!"

Yeah, tonight? There was so going to be a repeat performance.

"Deal with it until we find a spell that works," Bel said. "Or I'll go . . . jump off the roof or something. How'd you like that?"

Anders glared at him. "Oh, don't you even frakking dare!"

"Try me!" Bel said.

"Not fair!" Anders burst out. "So not fair!"

He gestured pointlessly at Bel in frustration for a moment, and finally threw up his hands. "GAH!"

Bel smirked. "Deal," he said.

"I hate you," Anders grumbled.

"At least don't do it while I'm in class," Bel capitulated. "Call first or something."

He facepalmed. "I can't believe I just said that."

"Oh, great, so now I need your permission to --" Anders twitched and broke that sentence off abruptly.

"If you do it while I'm in class again I will kick your ass," Bel growled.

"Fine! Then don't frakking do it while I'm in class!" Anders snapped back.

Bel sighed. "Fair enough," he said.

"Of course," Anders mused, "there could be a whole funky psychic sort of sharing . . ."

He stopped right there before he got killed.

Twitch. "Don't go there," Bel warned again.
