Revolutions: Week 9 Period 5

Aly was perched on top of her desk again as she watched the students come into the classroom.

"I hope you didn't miss me too much last week though it sounds like Bridge was an excellent substitute."  She grinned at Bridge.  "I'm sorry to say I don't have pie for you all.  Hopefully you won't hold it against me."

"Today we're going to switch things up a bit.  This whole semester we've focused on what it's like from the revolutionaries' standpoint. But I spent the past week in my country looking at things from a different angle - from that of the reigning government."

"So today, in small groups or pairs, I'd like you to react to a scenario as you would if you were the government of a country.  Go in with all your guns blazing, try to talk to the dissidents, infiltrate them, try to capture them and ship them off into exile, it's up to you.  Once you decide a plan of attack, I'm going to tell you how the revolutionaries react to your plan and you can respond once more."

"I'm sorry to tell all you strictly democratic souls, but today, you're all representatives of a monarchy.  Your intelligence service has brought information to you of a lost 'true heir' to the throne being spoken about in the streets.  A coalition of mainly merchants - your middle class - has started to form around this supposed heir, and the people of the streets seem to be turning towards that banner."

She grinned.  "You all have quite good instincts from the stirring things up side, let's see how you do when your objective is order in your country.  Any questions?"

Anders edged to the back of the room toward the end of the lecture and rested a hand on her shoulder. He really wanted to just give her a big hug, but he wasn't sure how well that would go over.

[OOC: Headed home now, as laptop battery is about to go; pick up in about 30.]

Isabel flinched slightly, but only because Anders unknowingly rested his hand right over Kivar's mark. "Hi," she said, getting to her feet and giving him a small smile.

"You're back," he said, half-wonderingly and half relieved, holding his arms out and halfway starting to hug her. "I am so frakking glad to see you."

She leaned in to return the hug, knowing he needed it as much as she did. "Back at ya," Isabel grinned. "How are you?"

"The worst I can say is that my ex walked in on me in a very embarrassing situation yesterday," Anders told her with a grin. "Things are definitely getting better, I'd say."

He'd noticed how quiet she'd been. "How about you? Everything okay?"

"I'm not going to ask for details because I have a feeling it'll involve crossing the TMI line," she chuckled. "I'm okay. Still tired mostly. But it's good to be back."

"It's good to have you back," Anders replied seriously. "People need to stop leaving, still, but at least you're coming back. Otherwise I might have to start going out and hunting you down. And I'm not saying a word more on that other subject, because I don't even want to think about it."

"I'm not going anywhere," Isabel promised. At least not for the next six months. "So the only leaving we're going to have to deal with is graduation."

Damn. He'd managed to avoid thinking about that one. "Which we at least have plenty of warning for," Anders said, trying to put the best face on things. "Time to prepare and everything. Plus, that gives me a chance to visit you and see more places before it's my turn to leave, huh?"

The smile he gave her was a tiny bit forced, but mostly genuine.

"Exactly. And considering I thought I was getting back after graduation, I plan on making the most of things," she said quietly. "We're definitely going to have to go to a ball game."

"Evans," Anders said in as bright a tone as he could muster, "we are going to do that if I have to buy out the whole damn ballpark to make it happen."

He indulged in a brief attempt at mentally calculating how much that would cost, and immediately gave up.

"Well . . . okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but you know what I mean."

"I know exactly what you mean. And I can't wait. It'll be fun," Isabel smiled. "I'll buy the hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jacks."

"All of which are vital," Anders agreed with a nod. "Wow, can it be spring already?"

"It is. Opening day is in just a few weeks," she nodded, not thinking about how only random chance managed to get her back here for it.

"A few weeks is too far away," Anders said, with the barest hint of a pout. "It needs to be opening day now. They moved the stupid time change, why can't they move that?"

"Because some things are just too sacred to mess with," Isabel laughed.

"Point." Anders chuckled. "And what's more sacred than baseball?"
