Amid all the chaos -- At the library

Amid all the chaos of the library, Methos remained near the front. Behind him everyone was squabbling and shuffling, trying to force themselves back or move themselves forward.

Around a corner, through the last faint smoke from the explosion of Principal Connor's office, Methos spied a slow-moving figure. "Here it comes!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, then moved forward.

*From the depths of Special Collections, something almost, but not quite, entirely unlike English can be heard. Zero is swearing at the magic section.*

English! Why aren' they in bleedin' English?? Or Chinese, even! How can I flink what they're globbin' about if I can't read the squallin' language?

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
*paces agitatedly back and forth, unable to find anything in a language he can manage that would be of any use whatsoever*

*slams a book in SerboCroatian shut*

I think we're in the wrong section.

*hyperventilating*

No frakking kidding?!?

Oh, Greek . . . Greek . . . maybe I can do that. Ever heard of any Greek myths about zombies?

[personal profile] swerval_zero 2005-09-24 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm...*wracks brain* The Greeks had unquiet dead, so sorta, yeah.

*grabs a book* Chinese! Okay, I can do this.

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
*finds a book that looks like it's in Greek and starts rifling through*

Frakking good thing I found out that my language is really related to this one, huh?

Yeah. *is totally distracted by the sounds of battle* They're here!

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Need any help in languages? I've got a couple under my belt.

Yes! Get in here if they don' need you shootin' things!

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think they can handle without me for a few minutes. What do we have to work with?

Um...*looks over discard pile* Somethin' Slavic, two in German, this one's Latin, an' *holds up a book in Akkadian* I don' even know what this one is.

And whatever y'can find on the shelves.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/2ls_in_oneill/259.html">I can fumble my way through the slavic maybe. No promises though

*Hunts through books until something looks familiar*

Serb. I speak that. A little. *Reads* The... not life mens are do not eat.

*is struggling through Chinese* Squall it, this is too mangled.

I think I saw some Russian on the third shelf. If you see anything that looks like it might be voodoo, I'm thinkin' that'd be totally swerval.

*Jack rifles through the bookshelf and pulld out three books*

Okay we've got a book on exorcism, a book on , and a Russian Survival guide! (http://www.randomhouse.com/crown/zombiesurvivalguide/)

[OOC: My HTML died. And I have to do a store run real quick. Feel free to NPC Jack until I get back.]

Santeria! Excellent!

See if we're doin' anythin' wrong, yeah?

Sure.

[identity profile] miss-thomasina.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Thomasina, who has heretofore been reading quite contentedly in one of the furthest corners of the library rounds the corner of one of the bookshelves just then.

What is going on? I heard this great disturbance . . .

[personal profile] swerval_zero 2005-09-24 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
*crazy arm-waving* ZOMBIES! There are zombies!

[identity profile] miss-thomasina.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Zombies? Oh. I didn't think those were real. pause Are they attacking the school, then?

[OOC: Sorry, just had to quickly figure out whether I could realistically have Thomasina know zombies. We're good. *g*]

Yes! D'you speak any languages besides English, or d'you know where the squallin' English magic books are?

(OOC: S'totally cool. There's a new post for post-first wave....somewhere.)

[identity profile] miss-thomasina.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I read Latin. And French. Also, a bit of Greek. But I've no idea where the English magic books are. Are there any here you need me to take a look at? I don't think I'll be much use, otherwise.

[personal profile] swerval_zero 2005-09-24 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
*grabs two books* This one's Latin, this one's French, I don' know what they say.

[identity profile] miss-thomasina.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Opens the one written in Latin and begins to flip through it. Looks up a moment later

This one's written by an Englishman. In Latin. That was the language of the scholars when people still practiced magic in England.

She goes back to reading, quite intently. She is completely undisturbed by the sounds of battle that waft towards them from the front of the library.

[identity profile] miss-thomasina.livejournal.com 2005-09-24 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
A while later, Thomasina looks up again.

There're bits about how zombies are created, but . . . they only give the usual methods for destroying them. I'll try the french one, now . . .

She switches books and goes back to reading,
