Traditional Fairy Tales, Class Nine (03/12)

Monday, March 12, Period 2

There was fine array of breakfast pastries and cookies laid out for the students today, along with plenty of hot drinks and juices. As soon as everyone was assembled, Aziraphale stood up from his chair and smiled.

"First, I want to remind you all that we will be taking our class field trip this weekend. The buses will load at the causeway on Friday at 3:00, and we'll return Sunday night. I'd like to ask anyone who cannot attend to please let me know, otherwise I will expect to see you all there. Now, I'll need to see the following people after class to collect your absence excuses."

Matilda Wormwood (two absences)
Angela Chase (one absence)
Jack Harkness (one absence) excused
Liz Sherman (one absence) excused

DISCUSSION: "Today we're going to have an open discussion to allow you all the chance to ask questions about the readings or the lectures, or to share your ideas about the material we've covered. Next week we'll be having a test on 'Themes', so this might be a good time to review that material as well."

Molly Whuppie
Jack the Giant Killer
The Sleeping Beauty
The Dancing Water, the Singing Apple, and the Speaking Bird
Hansel and Gretel
Brother and Sister
The Rose Tree
John the True
Mr Fox
Jack and the Beanstalk
Little Snow White

HOMEWORK: "Be at the causeway on Friday afternoon, and don't forget to study for the test."

[ooc: I should be around, with intermittant SP due to work, to answer any questions the characters have. Go ahead, throw out your ideas about the stories they've read so far, talk about how crazy the plots are or how silly the heros are or how you think the story should have ended! Please wait just a few minutes for the OCD is up, yay!.]

Yeah, this would be the first time Conner had ventured out of his room all weekend. He still looked kind of traumatized.

In fact, he might be seen to be rocking back and forth in his chair just a bit.

Phoebe raised an eyebrow at Connor.

Of course, she still hasn't forgotten what he did at Caritas recently, either.

Conner just gave her a helpless look and continued rocking a little bit.

He was totally not above shamelessly exploiting the pitiful puppydog look if it kept his ass from being kicked.

Shortly thereafter, a note landed on Phoebe's desk. Hey, I'm really sorry if what I did made you mad. I didn't know about Bel at the time. But I still don't get why me teasing Anders got to you.

Phoebe read the note and sighed.

Anders is my friend, someone I care about and don't like him being messed with -- especially since Cole was a very close friend of his, too. That week... it was hell on him as well as me.

She tossed the note back, and then her empathy refused to let her ignore what she was feeling so she sent another note to him.

What's wrong?

Can't swim, read the return note. The flooding was making me paranoid.

On the back side of it he'd written:

Okay, yeah, I get that. I didn't know. I wouldn't have done it if I knew, so I'm sorry.

Conner looked at Billy, sort of half in focus. "Is the water gone yet?"

"Most of it yeah." Billy answered. "Kind of a shame, I was hoping to get a chance to swim with the dolphins."

Conner grimaced. "Not a shame. Good thing. Good thing!"

"Not a fan of the water I take it?"

Marie gave Conner a concerned look. "You okay?"

Conner smiled sheepishly at her. "I will be when all the water dries up. I can't swim, so floods freak me out."

"Good reason to be freaked out," Marie nodded.

"Uh huh." Conner grimaced at her. "I hate floods."

Marie frowned. "Anything I can do to help?"

"Just tell me the water is going away?" Conner asked.

River was there, looking happy and somewhat distracted.

Billy was rather carefully singing another Jimmy Buffet song in his head.

Jack was there, with a coffee and a danish, looking pleased with himself. Not that he didn't usually look like that, but he was in an extremely good mood today.

Cedric skimmed some of the readings while listening to the lecture.

Turtle tried to think of something thoughtful and intelligent to submit to the discussion, but anything she thought of had something to do with stocks and nothing to do with fairy tales, so she didn't say anything.

There should be more fairy tales about the stock market, she decided. Bartleby the Scrivener so didn't count, because she couldn't get past the first page ever without conking out from boredom.

For the moment, Layla was far more comfortable taking notes on what everyone else was discussing, rather than trying to sound meaningful or intelligent herself. Not that she was worried about how much of the class material she understood or anything.

Evie was frowning at the material, wondering how on Earth she'd remember it all, and also drawing a little skyline of New York across the top of her paper.
