Music is Love: Third Period

Lorne greets his students with a wave and smile as they enter the classroom. "Hey Kittens! Today our judges are Yo-yo Die Hard and the star of various comedy films Brendan Fraser! I'm not sure why he looks different and is wearing a mountie uniform but who cares! He's HAWT!"

Lorne made his way down to the judges table and put his feet up. "Today's theme is martial arts and/or hats. Make me happy people!"

Ray officially hated singing. He got up on stage and, this time, closed his eyes so he wouldn't see the judges.

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive

Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

After the song ended, he said, "Whoo," once before walking offstage.

Fraser was there, hat off, looking quite happy to be here.

Yondaime is there as well, at least mostly. He was still a little hung over from his womanly bingefest last night, but he's still managing at least a little bit of a smile.

Sokka stood in front of the microphone and squeezed his eyes shut. He took a few deep breaths in total silence, then opened them and scanned the crowd.

Nope, no Katara. Damn. It was worth a try.

He dropped into a fighting stance and threw off a few punches and kicks. It might impress some of the people in the crowd, but the knowledgeable will immediately realize that his form is shoddy and he's not all that good at unarmed combat.

He kept up the punches and kicks all throughout his song, using them to punctuate the lines:

Oh-oh-oh-oh...

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those jerks were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning, but they fought with expert timing

There was funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were trapping when up, they were trapping when down
It's an ancient Chinese art, and everybody knew their part
For my friend, ain't you a stiff, then I'm kickin' from the hip

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning, but they fought with expert timing

There was funky Billie Jim and little Sammy John
He said, here comes the big boss, let's get it on
We took the bow and made a stand, started swaying with the hand
A sudden motion made me stiff, now we're into a brandnew trip

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning, but they did it with expert timing

Oh-oh-oh-oh...

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning, make sure you have expert timing

Kung Fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning...

Summer picked a song that didn't really have much to do with either theme. The song was by a band called Men Without Hats, though. So it kinda fit.

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

Say, we can go where we want to, a place that they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind

And we can dance

We can go when we want to, the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise them with the victory cry

Say, we can act if we want to, if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude or totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

Safety Dance
Say we can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
They're doing it from pole to pole
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody taken the chance

The safety dance
The safety dance
The safety dance

We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it we are never going to lose it
And everything will work out right

Say, we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
well they're no friend of mine

Is it safe to dance, oh is it safe to dance

Door has a hat. It's impossible to see what sort of hat it really is, because it's covered with apples, bananas, cherries, tangerines, and grapes. She was going to try for pineapple too, but there weren't any in the cafeteria, and she didn't feel like swimming to Turtle & Canary this morning.

There are hand-gestures, too. And, well, not castanets, but she did find some nuts to clack together. Not dirty.

Carmen Miranda's ghost is haunting Space Station Three.
Half the staff has seen her, plus the Portmaster and me.
And if you think we've had too much of Cookie's homemade rum,
Just tell me where those basket-hats of fruit keep coming from.

Don't go down to the cargo-bay when there's no ship in dock.
You just might hear maracas clack and get a nasty shock
And if you hear a rumba-beat, don't pass the messroom door;
You just might see a tangerine come rolling down the floor.

We sometimes catch a glimpse of her, by station night or day,
But when we try to catch her, she just laughs and fades away.
The station's chief headshrinker takes his notes and drains his cup.
We get rotated often, but she still keeps showing up.

We don't know why we're haunted here, or why it's her that haunts.
We've got a betting-pool for all who wonder what she wants.
The best odds say she likes the rhythm of the station's drive;
They didn't have phase-generators while she was alive.

Carmen Miranda's ghost is haunting Space Station Three.
Not that we're complaining, since the fresh fruit all comes free.
But now and then we wonder what it means for the human race
That ghosts of generations past are taking off for space.

Molly hadn't practiced a lot this week, but the song she chose was pretty simple.

All around my hat I will wear the green willow
All around my hat for a twelvemonth and a day
And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it
It's all for my true love who is far, far away

Fare thee well cold winter and fare thee well cold frost
Nothing have I gained but my own true love I've lost
I'll sing and I'll be merry when occasion I do see
He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he

The other night he brought me a fine diamond ring
But he thought to have deprived me of a far better thing
But I being careful like lovers ought to be
He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he

All around my hat I will wear the green willow
All around my hat for a twelvemonth and a day
And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it
It's all for my true love who is far, far away

Here's a quarter pound of reason, and a half a pound of sense
A small sprig of time and as much of prudence
You mix them all together and you will plainly see
He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he

All around my hat I will wear the green willow
All around my hat for a twelvemonth and a day
And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it
It's all for my true love who is far, far away

All around my hat I will wear the green willow
All around my hat for a twelvemonth and a day
And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it
It's all for my true love who is far, far away

All around my hat I will wear the green willow
All around my hat for a twelvemonth and a day
And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it
It's all for my true love who is far, far away

Greg chose a simple song that he had once heard on television.

He also had a sombrero, which he set on the ground, and began to dance around.

I dance
I dance
I dance

Around a Mexican hat

I dance
I dance
I dance

And that's the end of that!
