Gun Club, noon

Parker put up the sign with the rules.

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

"This is a pretty informal club; we're basically here to answer your questions, help those who are new to weapons, and allow a free trade of information about guns." Parker looked around at those present. "That said, if you have suggestions for anything else for the Club this semester, please feel free to talk to me. We usually have at least one Lazer Tag weekend, and I'm hoping to get some help with moving targets this semester.

"New people? Come see me to get ear and eye protection, and be given the safety lecture, especially if you don't have any previous experience."

Door tilts her head at the ear muffs. "Very stylish?" They could be. She has no idea.

Parker cocked an eyebrow, and her lips twitched. "Maybe you didn't notice it the couple times you handled a gun before, but gunfire in an enclosed space? Good way to go deaf. The microphone on them lets us talk to each other over the noise." She tapped the shades. "And these are for both sighting better, and the worst case scenario of ricochet. Find a pair that fit, no one gets to learn guns until they do."

Anders had been gravitating more and more toward the SIG-Sauer as his sidearm of choice, and today he seemed unusually quiet and focused as he carefully cleaned and loaded it.

He emptied three clips into the target from about medium range, hitting his target or coming damn close about 80% of the time.

Better -- but not quite as good as he could be. Reloading the gun, he took aim and started again.

Door slips the headphones on and seaches among the glasses until she finds a set that won't slip off her nose. "They were pretty loud even in the open." Not to mention in the belltower of a church.

"Everything has its downside. We're going to minimize that." Parker handed over an unloaded 9mm. "Do you know how to check that this is unloaded?"

Door shakes her head. "Not a clue. It's not even the sort I used before."

Parker flipped open the switch and ejected the empty magazine, showed Door how to re-load it, then pulled back the slide to reveal the firing chamber. "Like that. You always, always want to make sure it's unloaded when you put it away, and when you take it out. No assuming that it hasn't been messed with, no assuming you were the only one to use it." She handed over an ammunition cartridge to Door. "See if you can put the magazine in, like I just showed you."

Door takes the cartridge and attempts to load it into the gun. On the second try it slides in a bit more smoothly. "We don't have many of these at home. Some older sorts, rifles and pistols, but most people use blades."
