Special Collections (Locked to Janet and Piper)

"Here we go," said Janet, closing the door behind them. The ceiling was painted a deep shade of blue this time around, and the wall-to-wall bookshelves had been replaced by neatly labeled desks stacked high with books. The room was cavernous, with no end in sight.

"This place is weird," says Janet. "It's never once looked the same any of the times I've been in here. So, unfortunately, that means the map?" She held up an old piece of paper that had been crossed out and written over several times. "Pretty much useless. I think. Except I'm fairly sure the exit stays in the same place."

Piper looked around in awe. "Wow, I had no idea a place like this existed!"

[janet_fraiser]

"Isn't it freaky?" asked Janet. "But kind of cool. I think it overlays the library itself in some kind of weird warping of space and time, but I'm not a physicist, so the complicated stuff is a bit beyond me."

She started glancing at tables. "Extinct Mammal Cloning," she read off one book. "Matrix Manipulation. How To Destroy The Earth In Ten Easy Steps." Janet stopped and glared. "By Anubis. Somebody should tell whatever publisher that is to ask for their advance back."

A bird flew overhead and Janet jumped. "Okay, that was weird. I think that was a dodo. Which are extinct. And they most certainly did not fly."

Piper continues to gaze at everything in wonder. "You could get lost in here."

[OOC: *dies* Anubis!]

[janet_fraiser]

"Couldn't you, though?" asked Janet. "I have. For an entire night. Then when I got out in the morning I discovered I'd been at a party all night and already delivered the book I'd gone in to get. And I still got stuck with the hangover."

She glanced around. "These books all seem more scientific. I'll bet the magic books are all grouped together too. Pick a direction and let's go." She grinned at Piper. "Maybe we'll find something else cool too."

OOC: I really, really couldn't resist. *snerk*

Piper only looks on in confusion. "I think I understood most of that."

Piper picks an aisle to wander down. For some reason she was drawn to it. "Ooh, here are all the magic books!"

She glances at a book that worried her. The Source of All Evil: A Biography. "What the hell?"

"Oops." Janet looked sheepish. "Sorry. Didn't mean to confuse you, except I'm already confused myself about the whole thing."

"Neat!" exclaimed Janet. "I have yet to get to this section. I-- My last school had a really advanced science curriculum, and so that's what's been interesting me." She glanced down at the book Piper was looking at. "Red font on black background. I hope the cover artist wasn't paid much. So what's this source of all evil, do you think? Aside from bad news."

"Sounds really evil." Piper began paging through the book. "Except he apparently has really stupid wings. Like that's supposed to be scary?"

Piper giggles.

"Wings?" asked Janet. She peered over Piper's shoulder and started giggling. "They're awfully...fluffy, aren't they?"

Underneath it was a book made out of burnished silver. "Huh, Egyptian hieroglyphs," said Janet. She pointed to a six-pointed star impression on the cover. "Looks like you need a key to get into it, though."

"Seriously, this is supposed to be scary? I can't stop laughing. I don't think this is the reaction a source of all evil is exactly intending."

Piper was curious about the book in need of a key. "Huh."

[janet_fraiser]

"I don't read heiroglyphs," said Janet. "I think we might be covering that in Indo-European later, though. I wonder if I should check it out and see if Daniel knows what it is?"

OOC: For anyone reading this who doesn't pick up on the reference, it's The Book of the Dead from The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

"Yeah, I don't read them either," Piper added. "Daniel? Is he that professor who's into anthropology and all that stuff? I was thinking about taking one of those classes."

[janet_fraiser]

"Dr. Daniel Jackson," said Janet. "He's a very impressive archaeologist. He knows what he's doing. I'd recommend one of his classes if the section opens up again." She smiled awkwardly. "He and I are...friends."

"He sounds very smart," Piper said. "You're friends?"

OOC: Did you want to finish this up now that the zombie attacks are done or just let it slide? Let me know! :)

[OOC: We should just let it slide (have plot stuff going on today). Piper and Janet must get together again sometime, though. :)]
