Janet flips the library sign to "open," then goes inside and logs in. Maybe without the prof there, she can get some actual work done. Or maybe she can just sleep.
"This is stupid," Jake said. "I'm sure there are treasure maps here somewhere, but how the hell are we going to find them?" He opened his arms wide to the entirety of the library. "Huh?"
"You could use the card catalog," said Janet from the desk, pointing at a dust-covered monstrosity of a cabinet. "And keep it down. It's a library, for crying out loud."
"Have you ever researched anything? Used a computer? Found yourself needing to resort to the dewey decimal system?" Krycek asked, looking around the library thoughtfully. "Or we could ask an assistant. I think the librarian has a few."
Somehow managing to give both librarian-assistant and Krycek a contemptous look at the same time, Jake folded his arms over his chest. "I feel mocked."
"Thank you," said Janet. "Dear God, you'd think the people here had never heard of systems of organization and classification. Primary. Key. To. Human. Scientific. Advancement." She sighed. "I have high hopes that some day it will catch on as a general fashion around here."
"That means there has to a base of order in it somewhere," Jake pointed out, still with his arms folded. He'd been without proper coffee for nearly a whole day now, and he was feeling the withdrawal. Which wasn't made better at all by the smell of coffee coming from his shirt. "If it's proper chaos, I mean. ...Stop looking at me."
"I'm familiar with chaos theory," said Janet. "The basics of it, anyway." She took a drink from her travel mug of coffee. "However, are you here to discuss scientific theory, or find a place to play with your metal detectors? Either is fine with me."
OOC: As Janet's also a coffee addict, I couldn't resist the torment. :) Actually, I have no idea what your coffee plotline is, but it looks too fun to play with
"Don't remind me." Janet shuddered. "Sometimes I wonder if this is a school or a multidimensional riot waiting to happen. So. Treasure maps, huh? Send your friend there over to the card catalog and come on over here. What are you looking for? Pirate treasure? Wild west outlaws? Lost cities of gold? Shangri-La?" She paused. "I think King Arthur's lost treasure was found a while ago, though, so you might be SOL there."
OOC: Absolutely! Of course, I'm now going to be on and offline intermittently until 8 CST, whereupon I will be able to play with the prettyshiny fandom crack full-time. But keep posting, I'll just be slow in response time!
Jake narrowed his eyes at her. She was mocking him with her coffee! And probably her words as well, but who cared about that? Coffee. "Don't know what we're looking for. It's for the professor."
Krycek smirked, glancing at Jake to nod in agreement. "Treasure maps. He said 'You'll know it when you find it,' or something like that. I don't think he had any idea either, personally."
"The professor," said Janet. "There might be a few of them around here." He was glaring at her, which might have bothered her, except she was feeling particularly cranky today. She took another sip from her travel mug.
"You could always go to the card catalog, look in the section indexed by subject, and copy down a list of everything that's available. Be sure to check under 'treasure' and 'maps, treasure' because there might be something under one, but not the other, depending on what the previous indexers decided to do."
"Thanks," Krycek said, eyeing both of them as if believing anyone so addicted to coffee might just explode any moment. "If we need to check anything out, what's the limit?"
