Library [02/16]

Rory was in a good mood again today. She'd actually slept four whole hours the night before, she had college letters to pore over, and she had all the cheap candy she could eat.

First period was, of course, spent with Rory absorbed in her coffee. It's only natural.

But second period found her eating half-priced chocolates and reading information on Princeton.

But that was boring, because she wasn't going to Princeton.

So Rory gave that up and started making a pro/con list for Yale vs. Harvard.

"No, Mom, I wouldn't do it just to make them happy," Rory was saying on her phone during fourth period. "I just think it might be better. Closer to you and to Fandom, for one thing."

Lorelai did seem pleased with that idea.

Lunch today consisted of, shock, more candy and more coffee. Library's closed unless you work there, though.

She finally put the list away around fifth period and spent that hour actually doing her work - dusting shelves and putting books back.

And what would be library time without Rory working on her obsessive little project? So she was back at work with her notebook full of highlighted notations, adding a new one and doodling a light blue flower in the margin.

And when it was time to close the library, Rory began to gather her things and wondered if she would actually go to the dance tonight.

Angela came in, looking relativey cheerful and wearng her new bracelet. "Hey, Rory."

"Hi!" Rory said, looking up and smiling. "What's new in Angela-Land?"

"It's actually a magical land of complete boredom this week," Angela said. "I meant my mentor. She was nice. Otherwise I've just been playing nurse. How's the Queendom of Rory?"

"Got my college letters," she said, holding them up. "Otherwise, nothing exciting."

Except here's Bridge, plunking down a box of apple juice and a ham sandwich in front of Rory.

"Hi."

"Hi," Rory says, looking perplexed.

Angela grinned. "Only the letters? Where did you get in?"

"You look perplexed," Bridge observes.

"You brought me apple juice," she replies.

"Harvard, Yale and Princeton," she said proudly. "Still waiting to hear from Brown."

"And a sandwich," Bridge points out. Yes, it's a ham sandwich. Bridge kind of fails at Jewish. "It's lunchtime," he adds.

"I have lunch, though," she says, her brow creased.

"Candy and coffee is not lunch."

"Congratulations!" Angela said. "It must be a really hard choice to make."

"Well, Princeton's not a factor," Rory said, "since it was my safety. But yeah, I'm trying to decide between Harvard and Yale now."

"It's a perfectly fine lunch."

Angela considered. "Boston's a great city," she said. "I mean, from the once I've been there. And that's like your dream. But Yale is closer to your mom and Bucky."

"And here," she added.

"Except for the part where it lacks any nutritional value at all."

"Coffee and chocolate are both made from beans, which are vegetables."

"Eat the sandwich, please?" Bridge tries.

Rory sighs. "I'll eat the sandwich," she concedes.

She frowns. "Do I look that bad off? Really?"

"Will you get mad at me if I say yeah?"

Rory frowns at him. "I'm fine. And if I weren't fine, I've been doing better lately anyway."

"You need to take proper care of yourself," Bridge says. "I'm pretty sure Luke would agree with me."

"I know he does," she snorts, grudgingly taking the sandwich. "You're like the fourth person to mention this."

"We might not be dentists, but if four out of five Fandom residents agree, we might just be right."

Rory stares at him.

"What?"

"You are so weird."

"Here too," Angela agreed. "It's sad, but Connecticut kind of blurs into New England for me, all the little states."
