Music is Love: Friday - Third Period

The classroom is lacking the music, lights and sounds of the typical weekly class.

"Hey kids," Lorne said as they filed in. "Today I'm going to take it easy on you and let you practice on whatever you want this week. So what I want you to do is pick your own song that you like, sing it and tell me what that song means to you."

"So take the stage and wow me folks."

"This song makes me feel kinda odd, like I've been knocked unconscious and tied to a roof support by a fifteen foot giant or something."

Before you slip into unconsciousness
Id like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss

The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
Well meet again, well meet again

Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
Youd rather cry, Id rather fly

The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, Ill drop a line

Sokka strode up on stage and cleared his throat. "I just heard the perfect song the other day!" he announced, and then he started to sing.

And, oh, this is not a song for someone with his voice. Feel free to wince.

A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide

Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you

No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the witness, catch the wit
Catch the spirit, catch the spit

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide

Exit the warrior
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to the friction of the day

When he finished, he pumped his fists in the air. "Oh, yeah! I don't know who this Tom guy is, but he's AWESOME!"

Katara didn't pay attention to the voice issues, but she bounced and cheered for her brother.

"This ... is what home is like. When it's good," Door says simply. She sings it quietly, but not unhappily, and mostly in tune.

It's raining down roses on the stop where you stand
As you wait for the morning train
The woman beside you, her shoulders are smoking
Her eyes are filling with flame

And it's nothing new, happens each day
Everyone turns away

And back on the platform, the wings of the ragman
Are stretching and shaking and shining, shining like rain

The street that you live on is brush strokes on canvas
You'd see it if you turned around
The sky fell last wednesday and broke into pieces
And every shard made a sound

But it's nothing new, happens each day
And everyone turns away

It's the clock in your kitchen, it's the faces of children
It's the rising, the falling, the lost, the lost and the found

And it's all around you now
It's all around you now
It's all around you now
Still you don't see
Still you don't see

The boy on the porch swing, he left glowing footprints
On the sidewalk as he passed by
Oh, you can't see it, I know you can't see it
And back then, neither could I

But it's nothing new, happens each day
And everyone turns away

And back in your old yard, the tree from your childhood
Is thinking about you, and shivers a sigh

And it's all around you now
It's all around you now
It's all around you now
Still you don't see....

Molly walked up to the stage and started to sing.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Molly waited a moment for the last of the music to fade out before speaking. "This song is about looking at life as more than just the obvious," she said. "For me anyway. It also reminds me of my friend, Karolina."

Cassie was trying to not be emo. Really.

Even the rats know that trouble's gonna come
To the edge of the city, see the little guys run
I hear Spring's nice in Canada

Maybe the men up on Capitol Hill
need a little less Jack and a little more Jill
You can have my stereo

Even though the race may never be won
I can lay like a dandy, get heavy in the sun
take a love song and beautify

Whoa whoa whoa...

I hear the words but the meaning gets lost
Its a game, it depends on who the ball gets tossed
Its the same ball anyway

You're tuggin' me now, cut me lose or take me on
You can pray, you can play the piper all night long
That's some good home cooking

Even though the race may never be won
I can lay like a dandy, get heavy in the sun
take a love song and beautify

Whoa whoa whoa...

"I guess," Cassie said. "It's just... I dunno." She sniffed, totally failing at the not-emo thing. "It's something, yeah."

Ray took the stage. "I, uh, just like this song a whole lot. Good song to listen to when you're angry. Or exercising."

If you're havin' trouble with your high school head
He's givin' you the blues
You wanna graduate but not in is bed [...but not in his debt]
Here's what you gotta do -
Pick up the phone
I'm always home
Call me any time
Just ring
36 24 36 hey [36 24 36 8]
I lead a life of crime

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap

You got problems in your life of love
You got a broken heart
She's double dealin' with your best friend
That's when the teardrops start - fella
Pick up the phone
I'm here alone
Or make a social call
Come right in
Forget about him
We'll have ourselves a ball

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap

If you got a lady and you want her gone
But you ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' at you night and day
Enough to drive you nuts -
Pick up the phone
Leave her alone
It's time you made a stand
For a fee
I'm happy to be
Your back door man

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap

Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT
Done dirt cheap
Neckties, contracts, high voltage
Done dirt cheap
.

After actually listening to the lyrics of the song, Ray kind of frowned before leaving the stage.
