Hunting 101 - Class 6 (Wednesday period 7)

When the students came into the Danger Room, they found John leaning against the by-now familiar black car, the main street of a small town behind him.

"Good afternoon," John said when they all had arrived. "First an announcement. I won't be having office hours tomorrow as something has come up and I need to go out of town for the weekend. If you have anything you need to discuss, you can see me after class or wait until my office hours next Tuesday.

"As promised last week, behind me is the town of Hume. As the information you were given tells you, recently two teenage girls -- Ashley Taggart age 15 and Valerie Brown age 16 -- died under identical mysterious circumstances. They were found dead in the town's dance studio after having been practicing alone. There was no signs of violence on the bodies, according to the autopsies, their hearts just gave out.

"This is typical of the kind of information a hunt starts with. So let's see what you can make of it. Your assignment is to find out what killed those girls and stop it. You paired off last week so go to it." He smiled at them. "Impress me."

[ooc: wait for the ocd's are up, go to it!]

"Mmm. Me neither." Parker studied the floor, the mirror, then went over to the barre, running the tips of her fingers along it. "So, both girls come in, use the place, and the barre; maybe something scared them? Or there was something in here?" She frowned.

Buffy tilted her head to study the mirror. "It would have to be pretty damn scary to give them heart attacks, don't you think?"

"Seriously damn scary. Of course, that's the point of the class, but..." Parker frowned in frustration. "What else causes heart attacks? Drugs?"

"Yeah, but they'd be able to tell that, right?" Buffy looked around again. "Seriously, I have, like, zero good ideas here. Could they have danced until they died?"

Parker frowned, turning to meet Buffy's eyes. "Exhaustion. That could do it, yeah. A curse, a spell, something like that, to keep them dancing? But why?" She paused. "If it happened here, there must be a trigger that set it off."

"I don't think we should try dancing alone here to test it," Buffy said. "I don't know why. For kicks, maybe? If it's a curse, maybe someone else using the dance studio was jealous?"

"That would make sense. And maybe it's not specific enough to stop now. Maybe whoever dances here alone will end up unable to stop, or maybe there's something else." Parker opened the materials they'd been given again, hoping to find some clue in the folder.

"Do you think there's anyone here we could talk to? I mean, if the girls weren't even friends or were really bad dancers the jealousy thing wouldn't fit at all..." Buffy trailed off, shrugging. She was pretty sure Parker was smarter than her, but Buffy knew about cliques and jealousy.
