There were wee heart lollipops alongside the lab coats this week as the students filed into the Danger shop. Abby was sitting on one of the lab counters, her pigtails held up with bright red fuzzy ties.

"Happy Valentines Day, guys! Eat your suckers during the lecture because you are not going to want to take them into the practical this week." Grinning at the students, she clapped her hands. "This week we're going to be using the forensic skills you've learned to find out what happened at a crime scene. The only catch is that you won't be the only people there this week. You'll be dealing with other departments, people who will be in charge, people who might mess up your crime scene. As always, you want to figure how what happened to the victim, but this week you're going to learn how to deal with firemen and cops. Cooperation is key, guys. You're an important part of the team so don't let them walk all over you...but don't get too uppity. They can throw you off the crime scene. Today that'll mean you get a lower grade but in the field it'll mean that you can't do your job and evidence could get lost or destroyed while they wait for a replacement."

Passing out handouts and messenger bags to each of the students, Abby talked a little about the tools that they'd find inside. A camera for crime scene photos, several evidence bags and vials, notebook and pens, and most importantly, identification. "Crime scenes can be like circuses and being the lab geek means that not everyone at the scene will know who you are. Unless you want to be tossed into the back of a police car, keep your ID on you at all times."

Opening the door of the lab, she ushered the students through. Instead of walking into the crime scene like usual, the scene was set outdoors. They stood in front of a burnt out shell of a house, still smoking in places as ~~NPC~~ firefighters crawled over it. The stench of burning wood was heavy in the air as Abby directed them to three firefighters who were waiting near the front door.

"Go get 'em!"

Faithful was on the floor, looking very dead, really. Ignore his playing with a ball of fluff he found.

Parker stared. "Okay. Nice deadness. Not."

Faithful purred. "I got bored."

"As you do," Parker had to agree. "When did you and Sparky here die, Faithful?"

"Sparky?" Faithful raised a brow. "And I died at ten pm. Tell Alanna I miss her, really."

"The person who was allegedly smoking in bed?" Parker grinned. "Do you and he or she have more injuries, or did you both die in the fire? And Alanna said you were getting sick. I'm sure she'll be very sad you're dead now."

"My cause of death is undetermined due to fire. There's some stick stuff on my fur, though, grab one bag from under the bed unless you want me to accidentally tare it."

"Got it!" Parker glared at the corpse as she retrieved the bag. "Serious idiot. Would we find anything in his or her system besides nicotine? Or yours, for that matter." She reached out and stroked his head. "Happy Valentine's and Death Day."

~~Broots wtf?~~ Faithful purred. "You won't find anything in its system, but you'll find two sleeping pills in mine. A little to the left?"

~~Heh.~~ Parker moved her hand to the left, and blinked as she scritched Faithful. "Someone gave their cat sleeping pills, and then smoked in bed? Okay, that's seriously weird."

Faithful looked totally innocent and purred like a purring thing.

Parker stared at him. "Please tell me *you* didn't take the pills and then decide to smoke."

Faithful gave her a look.

"Yeah, didn't think so." She gave him one last scratch behind the ears, and got to her feet. "Don't worry, we'll find out how this happened and who committed kitty-i-cide. Have fun!"

Billy shook his head. "What kind of superstitious bastard kills a cat?"

"Exactly! Especially a black one!"

"Though it might have been the talking that really got them." Billy said. "So, uh, I'll make my way down the list I guess. Time and cause of death?"

"Ten pm. And the fire makes it impossible to tell what the cause of death was." Faithful promptly responded. "And my talking is not annoying."

"I didn't say you were annoying." Billy said. "I meant that people not from Fandom might have a very strong reaction to a black talking cat. As in freaking out. Toxicology?"

Faithful smirked. "I keep my mouth shut then. And there were two doses of sleeping pills found inside me."

"Two doses? Unless someone's really stupid I'd say there's definately a homicide here. Any other injuries?"

"There was some sticky residue on my fur." Faithful pointed with a paw under a bed. "Grab a bag from there unless you want your sample to have claw marks in it."

Billy grabbed the bag. He wondered what this would turn out to be.
