Detention 02/1007 - Saturday, Danger Shop

John was waiting for them outside an old, slightly rundown apartment building, leaning casually against his car.

"Good morning," he greeted them. "Nice to see you all bright eyed and eager. Hopefully you'll still be that way when you finish your detention. Please sign in on the list and take a knapsack."

He indicated a table next to the car which had a pile of knapsacks on it beside a paper that listed their names:

Steerpike
Jo Harvelle
William Kessler
Ami Mizuno
Liz Sherman
Turtle Wexler
Sam Winchester

When everyone had done so, John continued. "There's a ghost that's haunting the building behind me. Young women keep disappearing out of locked apartments never to be heard from again. One just disappeared last night out of apartment 309. You are going to find the ghost and stop it. Everything you need to do so is in the pack you've been provided. Once the ghost is no longer a threat, you're free to go."

"If there's no questions, you may begin."

"Oh, goody. Do they have keys? Because if they don't, and we don't investigate this, then more women are going to disappear. Ooo. Or maybe you will. That might be pleasant. . . ."

Steerpike went back to kicking the door.

"Stop that!" the man said irritably, even as he dialed 911 on his phone.

The door swung open if I might mod it. "Okay. I've stopped."

"Don't you dare go in there," the man warned, then spoke into his phone. "Yes, I'd like to report a break in in progress."

Steerpike decided that the best way to deal with this guy would be to ignore him completely.

He went into the apartment.

The man continued yelling after him, but didn't follow.

What an irritating little creature of a man. Steerpike started to search the apartment.

Not that he quite knew what a modern woman's apartment was supposed to look like. . . .

Steerpike might notice that the cover on the light switch is off and there's residue of some kind of black gunk (http://pics.livejournal.com/demons_death/pic/00002wgb) oozing out of the opening.

Steerpike rather doubted that they'd be given any kind of laboratory to test this black gunk. So he did the next best thing to taking a scientific sample.

He poked it.

Hey, for all he knew, the woman had been having a pudding fight with someone. Or was a really bad housekeeper.

The gunk was room temperature and vaguely sticky. It seemed to leave behind an oily residue on the hands.

Steerpike wiped his finger fastidiously on a handkerchief and continued to look around.
