Spy Tech, Class Five (02/07)

Wednesday, February 7, Period 1

The usual arrangement of screen and projector are in place in M's classroom today. Currently projected on the wall is the following slide:

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
JIM ELLISON (CLASS THREE)
ALEX KRYCEK (CLASS FOUR)

"Ellison, I will need a written excuse from you before the end of the week, or you'll be assigned detention. Krycek, you have until next week's class to bring me your excuse. You may all turn in last week's homework assignment to Blank and Santos before you leave today.

Next week there will be a test on the material we've covered thus far. Therefore, following a brief lecture today, you may have the remainder of the class to review."

LECTURE: "Today's topic is X-Ray Glasses. Since this is a high school class, there will be no demonstration of the item. I apologize for raising anyone's hopes." M gave the class a disdainful and not particularly apologetic look as she changed the slides being projected on the screen. "These particular glasses were designed to allow the wearer to detect the presence of concealed weaponry. I'm certain you can imagine that isn't all they allow the wearer to detect mildly NWS."

DISCUSSION: "I want your opinion of this technology. Does it provide a necessary service, or does it cross the line into unnecessary invasion of privacy?"

TEST REVIEW: Study your notes from previous classes or discuss them with your fellow students. M and her TAs will be available to answer questions.

Class One: Introductions
Class Two: Cameras
Class Three: Underwater Technology
Class Four: Concealed Weapons

Nadia was there. Looking a little preoccupied, but there, nonetheless.

"It's only an invasion of privacy," Setsuna put in, "if you're using it merely for the sake of using it. But if there is an intention and a need...I mean, really, it's only putting those without any sort of special sight or sensing abilities on a more level playing field."

Anders's handwavey homework was, to be honest, very obviously halfhearted. Actually, halfhearted was a generous assessment; it was scanty at best.

Marty was there as well. Though he was about to disappear from the internets for a very very long time

"Totally depends on who's using it," Anders said indifferently. "Just like anybody who's got special powers around here can abuse them or use 'em for good. Well, almost anybody, at least."

Annette's homework was great, really. She worked very hard on it and turned it in with pride. Yep.

"I think only certain people should be allowed to use them." She offered, totally wishing she could get her hands on a pair.

Annette took out her notebook and lay her head on her desk. She then began to draw hearts on a clean sheet of paper.
