Library, Monday [2-5]

As usual, Ms. Readman opened up the library. However, she looked as if she hadn't slept in quite some time and there was a jagged rip in the hem of her trenchcoat. A flight back from Spain on a military transport with no time to change or rest when you got home could be wearing on a person.

But it was okay, because the day had been saved.

Second Period

Yep, no terrorists were going to take over the world using a secret diary of Picasso's on her watch.

Third Period

The secret diary, by the way, had been entirely in Spanish.

Fourth Period

[agentthepaper]

Therefore, Ms. Readman suspected her superiors had made her learn Basque in a week for her own amusement.

Lunch

The library was closed for lunch, AKA "the first actual food Yomiko's had since Saturday." So if you weren't supposed to be there (that is, employed there), buzz off, because she doesn't want her lunch interrupted.

Fifth Period

Ms. Readman was behind the computer, working on her report to Mr. Joker. Prominent in said report was the fact that the diary was entirely in Spanish.

Sixth Period

His response was one word.

Oops.

Yomiko was Not Amused.

Seventh Period

Ms. Readman spent the final period picking up the library before the day's end and reshelving all her Basque books.

Mitch wandered into what appeared to the library sometime around midday. He looked around, scanning for giant alligators, squids, serial killers or anything else he'd seen at his beach.

Seeing just books, he kept wandering around.

"May I help you?" Yomiko asked him after watching him wander for a few minutes.

"There aren't any maneating starfish around here, are there?" Mitch asked her.

Okay, now she was even more confused. She should not be expected to deal with this sort of thing on no sleep. "Um, maybe in Special Collections?"

"What's Special Collections?" Mitch asked.

Yomiko gestured to the door to Special Collections. "It's where we keep all the rare, dangerous, or...um, bizarre books."

"Ah, that's very safe of you," Mitch said. "Mitch Buchannon. I'm from the school board."

"Oh!" Yomiko sat up a little straighter. "I'm Yomiko Readman, I'm the librarian here at Fandom High. Um, would you like a bookmark?" she offered, even though pink flowers didn't seem like this guy's style. "They're good luck!"

"Thank you," Mitch said kindly and took the bookmark. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Readman. Do the students use this library quite often?"

"Oh, absolutely! The Fandom High library has a wonderful selection of reference books for use in their projects, and a good trashy romance novel section selection of fiction books for them to read in their spare time."

"That's very good to hear," Mitch said. "And there have been no giant squid incidents?"

Yomiko looked puzzled. "No, not since I've been here I don't think so. Where would you put a giant squid on the island, anyway?"

"Giant squid could hide anywhere," Mitch said, remembering the way he'd wrestled the giant squid he'd encountered. "They are sneaky animals."

"Well, if I see any, I'll be sure to take the proper steps." By which she meant carving it into calamari with paper.
