When the students come into the classroom, there's a little box of doughnuts in front of the class. "Go ahead and take one," Captain Liberty says. "It's cop food, but they're kind of like underflashy superheroes, too. Well, at least, the uncorrupted ones are. Anyway, hi. So just a little information about the fashion show next week. You don't have to show up to class on Tuesday next week, but you do have to show up with your costume to the auditiorium next Friday after classes. I will be checking attendance, and if you don't show up or participate, that's going to be a huge chunk out of your grade. I haven't done the math yet to find out how much, but it'll be a chunk. Also know that while you won't have to wear the costumes to class, you will be expected to wear them for a couple of practical exercises in the Danger Shop. Remember that when you're coming up with them. Any questions?"

After any questions had been asked, Captain Liberty continued, "So this week we're going to talk about how not to die like a punk. Punks don't die pretty. In fact, it's usually a quick and easy death and it's not really that heroic, so we'd like to avoid that. In fact, we'd like to avoid dying at all." She passes out a handout and says, "Read through that. Is there anything you'd like to add? Any questions? What would be the problems if you had to fight in an ordinary classroom and how would you deal with it?"

Luke was hovering by the door as the students left the room. "Um, hi," he said. "I've got a question for you."

"I've got an answer, let's hope they match up," Captain Liberty says. "Hi."

"Hi," Luke replied, smiling nervously. "I know I'm not in your class, but I have to plan a rescue."

"Um. Okay. Like, for real or a class project?" At this school, you always have to check either way.

Luke's answer was probably not the one she wanted to hear.

"For real."

She looks him up and down and says, "I'd lecture, but I've heard some stories from this class." That's so sad, really. "What do you need?"

"To convince a gangster to release a friend of mine," Luke said. "Hopefully without getting anyone killed."

Captain Liberty frowns. "Turf war?" she guesses.

Look, she's kind of not used to gangsters, she's used to gangs. They're the same thing, really.

"Not exactly," Luke said. "Han owed him some money." He paused. "A lot of money," he amended. "But we need him back."

"And you're going to stage a rescue from the loan shark?" Captain Liberty asks, eyes wide. This school is kinda with the making her want to drink sometimes.

Luke snorted before he could stop himself. "Jabba's a Hutt," he tried to explain. "He controls planets, shipping lanes, millions of credits in drug smuggling. He's not exactly a loan shark."

"So he's a Hutty Al Capone," she says. She has no idea what a Hutt is. "Um. Do you have experience in this sort of thing?"

"Some," Luke said, "but I've been told by students here that planning is better than my normal 'show up and see what happens' approach."

He pulled out the notes he'd written down. "We have someone on the inside already, but Han's girlfriend is getting antsy. If I don't come up with a plan soon, she'll probably race off and threaten Jabba with a thermal detonator or something."

"Yeah, that would be bad," she says quickly. "How many people do you have helping you?"

"How many would you recommend?" Luke asked. "I was thinking going in small--me, a couple of people I could trust, and some droids as bait."

"That depends. How good are your friends? I can't believe I'm actually asking this."

"They're really good," Luke said. "Not superpowered good--although I guess I am--but they've been leading a rebellion against the Galactic Empire and haven't been killed. Not a lot of people can say that."

"Well, I'd say the odds are better... I still wouldn't recommend it," she says. "You'd have to be really prepared, and make it as quick as possible. In, hey there we're here on a rescue mission, and out."

Luke nodded. "What would you recommend?" he asked.

"In, hey there we're here on a rescue mission, and out," she repeats with a shrug. "I'm a superhero. We're kind of simple with the plans."

"His place is heavily guarded and filled with well-armed sycophants. I'm not invisible or invincible and I won't be able to just walk in with a weapon."

Luke laid out the ~~scene from Return of the Jedi~~ plan he had come up with.

"Do you think it would work?"

"I've seen lesser plans work," she says slowly. It's so sad that she can say this.

"So is that a 'go ahead, Luke' or a 'I'll come with nice things to say at your funeral, Luke?'"

"Maybe both?" she says, making a face. "I don't think I can say 'by all means, go put yourself in danger with the Hutty Al Capone,' but I'm also not legally able to lock you in a closet and tell you no." Stupid laws. "The plan can work if you're sure you're ready for it and know how to handle it if things don't work out exactly the way you planned."

Thinking about it, she picks up one of the extra handouts to give to him.
