When the students come into the classroom, there's a little box of doughnuts in front of the class. "Go ahead and take one," Captain Liberty says. "It's cop food, but they're kind of like underflashy superheroes, too. Well, at least, the uncorrupted ones are. Anyway, hi. So just a little information about the fashion show next week. You don't have to show up to class on Tuesday next week, but you do have to show up with your costume to the auditiorium next Friday after classes. I will be checking attendance, and if you don't show up or participate, that's going to be a huge chunk out of your grade. I haven't done the math yet to find out how much, but it'll be a chunk. Also know that while you won't have to wear the costumes to class, you will be expected to wear them for a couple of practical exercises in the Danger Shop. Remember that when you're coming up with them. Any questions?"

After any questions had been asked, Captain Liberty continued, "So this week we're going to talk about how not to die like a punk. Punks don't die pretty. In fact, it's usually a quick and easy death and it's not really that heroic, so we'd like to avoid that. In fact, we'd like to avoid dying at all." She passes out a handout and says, "Read through that. Is there anything you'd like to add? Any questions? What would be the problems if you had to fight in an ordinary classroom and how would you deal with it?"

[Second verse same as the first. Job from hell till 6:30 PST, so I will pick up pings then. Feel more than free to get into discussions with each other on the subject.]

Wow. Talk of cops and heroes dying?

And that would be Teddy, sitting next to her, trying to comfort her because he's the emotionally stable superhero here and that's what you do, damn it.

Edward, master of bad timing and awful tact, waved at Cassie, and mouthed "Told you I was in your class."

"Don't die with your pants down!" Mr. Fantastically Awesome and Sometimes Spectacular offered up helpfully.

"...Yes, of course how could I have forgotten that one," Captain Liberty says, sounding a little monotone with all her interal omg wow.

"Hey, if you wanna be well known, dying with your pants down is not going to do anything to help that," John said. "That's all people are gonna remember."

"You know, the purpose of this whole discussion is to not worry about that," Captain Liberty says. "I'm not sure why you'd have your pants down in a fight anyway."

"The villain could've just ripped your pants," he suggested. "It could happen!"

"Ripped them almost off?"

"If they grabbed hard enough."

She purses her lips and says, "I've never known a villain who would try pantsing you as a tactic. And I've known some weird villains."

"Obviously, not weird enough."

Reading the handout makes him feel a little more reassured. He could do most of these things... make sure there's no cats on the battlefield.... Though... he has to say that the transforming one is something he's used to...

"Um, a classroom will have a lot of students and desks and chairs?" Buffy suggested. "And the bad guy might not care if he or she hurts innocent students, but heroes should?"

"Very good, Pom Pom Power," Captain Liberty tells her. "They might see an extra person as a hostage if things get desperate enough, where a hero should see them as someone to protect and get out of the way."

Buffy beamed.

"What about collateral damage?" Pippi said. "Should you try to avoid it at all costs, or just not worry about it?

"Sometimes it's unavoidable. Try to keep it from happening if you can, and if say, there's a building about to fall on some people, they should be your primary concern," she says. "A lot of cities with a lot of super crime tend to budget for repairs."

Pippi nodded at the suggestion of keeping buildings from falling on people.

"So, knowing as much as you can about your opponent would be helpful because then you know what to say and do to make them chase you and draw them into a more open area?"

"Yes, exactly. You know your enemy well enough, you can figure out which buttons to push to get them to do what you want. It doesn't always work, but it's great when it does," she grins.

"I'm inclined to agree." Pippi said grinning back.

"Okay... so I die. Been there, done that," Jamie said with a yawn. "Next question."

"And what about those of us who don't come back when we die?" Layla asked smugly.

JD looks at the handout.

"You're serious? I thought superheros didn't die. I mean, what else is the point?"
