Popular Culture [Monday, January 29, 7th period]

There was a pile of clothes in a box at the center of the classroom, the teacher's table was moved to the side to give room to the box of clothing.

"Good afternoon, you lot." Rose greeted once the students settled down. "So, we got through language, Earth tech and now we go to one of my favorite topics -- clothes. Suppose you've all heard the expression 'Clothes Make the Man.' out of everything we're going to discuss, clothes is probably the most obvious. You see them everywhere you go in this time period and both men and women wear denim trousers, jackets, jumpers, t-shirts and trainers."

"Trousers or pants to Americans, were around since the 16th century but it isn't until the 20th century did it become acceptable for women to wear trousers as well. Women wearing trousers caused quite a scandal - - women didn't wear anything but dresses and gowns and while lovely it could get a bit boring and not to mention restraining. Most popular trousers used by both men and women are jeans." Rose took out a t-shirt and brought it up to show around the class. "This is a T-shirt, you've seen them around, even worn them. They're buttonless, collarless and short sleeved, apparently the US Army's the one to be credited for inventing this handy piece of clothing, started out as a white cotton shirt now it's branched out to every form of design and color."

Rose brought out a pair of converse trainers. "These trainers or atlethic shoes, or most commonly by Americans, sneakers were first invented around 1893, now we don't only wear trainers for exercising, it's popular footwear for teenagers because its comfortable and could practically be worn anywhere. Good shoes for running for your life too."

Rose gestured to the pile of clothes, "What I want you to do is to pair-up, if everyone would be attending today you'd all have partners. The person left without can pair-up with me. Task is simple, I want you to dress your partners in the latest fashion of this century. Then right after, we'd have ourselves a bit of a fashion show."

Anders, allowed to choose fashions? There was only one possible outcome for this: a sports fashion show.

Marco Conrad - Alphonse Elric

Marco decided to nap while waiting for his partner.

Alphonse looked over at Marco briefly before tapping him on the shoulder.

"I'm not asleep." Marco sleepily said.

Alphonse rolled his eyes. "Uh-huh. Well, we've got an assignment to do." He didn't sound too thrilled about it. "So... clothes."

"What's wrong with what I'm wearing? Jeans and t-shirts never go out of style."

Alphonse blinked. "Nothing wrong," he said quickly. "But, the assignment was..." he trailed off, then shook his head. "Well, I can't blame you. I rather like my own clothes as well."

Edward Elric - Hermione Granger

Edward blinked in confusion at this ignominious idea. "But I like my clothes," he complained. "And besides, dress-up is for girls."

"It is not, it's just something new," says Hermione, in a sweater and skirt. Not the most fashionable, but it is better than robes. "And only for a class period."

Edward scowled. "But there's nothing wrong with my clothes. They're hardy and good for travel!" Says he of the leather pants and white-lined jacket.

Henry Jekyll - Ami Mizuno

Ami looked around for Henry. This was an odd assignment.

Henry got up from his seat and grabbed a desk near Ami. "Good morning."

"Good morning. How are you today?"

"I'm fine." He frowns a little at the clothing pile. "I do, however, have some reservations about this..."

"Why? It is just for class..."

"It's all very well and good for those who are used to this clothing, but I can't help but feel..." Henry's face tinged pink as he picked up a T-shirt. "Perhaps something with longer sleeves..."

"Ah" said Ami and started looking through the pile. "What about this" she pulled out a long sleeved t-shirt "and maybe this with it?" she got a denim shirt as well. "To go over it?"

He was allowed multiple layers. Yay! Henry took the clothing, feeling heartened. "Thank you, I think I will try them." He looked around the pile, trying to reciprocate by finding something for Ami. He resolved not to find it awkward that he was picking out girl's clothing.
"How about...this?" He found a blouse, with billowy three-quarter sleeves, and held it up. "And..." he looked back and forth between a skirt and a pair of jeans. Either might look nice, but the skirt looked like it barely reached the ankles, and the jeans were trousers. Though the teacher said that that was acceptable, Henry just couldn't bring himself to suggest that a lady wear trousers!
He continued to look back and forth at the two articles of clothing. "Eh, which do you think would be best?" He asked Ami.
Henry was such a cop-out.

Ami laughed. "You are supposed to figure it out. But i will give you a hint. A long skirt is not very much in fashion, and this one is much too long."

Henry failed to hold back a smile. "You're right." He sighed. "Perhaps this class will be a little challenging." He picked up the pants and handed the outfit over to Ami.

"Nah i am sure you can do it. Now, um, where does the professor expect us to change?" Ami hoped it wasn't in the middle of hte class.

Draco Malfoy - Ron Weasley

Well isn't this just bloody fantastic? Draco was not happy when he sat down at a desk.
