Adventuring Survival Tactics, Period 4, A Classroom, 1/26/07

It wasn't swatches of carpet or bean bag chairs, this day in AST. Instead, there were leather ottomans about. Imported from the Ottoman Empire.

"Today," the Doctor said. "We'll be talking about something you'll probably find even more outrageous than the idea of running away. Today, we're talking screaming. And just so we're perfectly clear, this is not a sexist thing. Men can do this just as 'orrible as the ladies, and sometimes even worse."

"Screaming does many things. Draws attention, clears your lungs, assaults the ears, and much, much more. When confronted with something terrifying, like a Dalek, screaming is a much better reaction than soiling yourself. One is much easier to clean up after than the other. Now, here's the good thing about screaming: It gets people to react. It may get help. It, sadly, might get more of the villains to come after you. It might even kill the thing you are facing, if they're vulnerable to certain frequencies or decibels. All of this? Very likely."

"So, I want you to..." He pulled a set of ear plugs out of his pocket and stuck them in his ears. "Practice screaming. It's an important skill. Also, if you want to discuss how insane this class is, that works too."

"For homework, please compile a list of five situations for which you think screaming is a good idea, and five you think are not a good idea for screaming. Got it? Fantastic."

River drew a deep breath - very deep - and then screamed for a long time. It did feel good somehow.

Alanna took a deep breath and screaaaaaaamed.

Jack refrained from saying anything about screaming, or how broad his experience might have been with hearing people of both sexes do so in his presence, and instead tipped his head back and hollered as loud as he could.

It really did feel surprisingly good.

Zack screamed. He had a surprisingly good set of lungs on him.

Summer took a deep breath and screamed as loud as she could.

Stark wasn't sure he needed any more practice screaming, he thought he'd probably had enough over the years. Still, it probably couldn't hurt.

So he took a nice deep breath and screamed. Practice screaming was, luckily, a little less girlie than the real thing.

Lana had a lot of pratice in screaming back home, so she felt fairly comfortable with this exercise. In fact, she and Clark had once just stood on the football field and screamed when life seemed too much. She did the same thing here - letting out all her frustration about the past weekend - and felt the same sense of relief.

Ami was mostly embarrassed about screaming in public. So her scream was sort of pitiful and not very loud or long.

Annoyed and frustrated by what she suspected from radio, Isabel let out one long, loud yell of frustration.

Sokka had been known to scream like a little girl in the past. Here and now, he didn't want to do that.

He took a deep breath, and let out a warrior's battle yell.

Nadia looked around for a cup of coffee or tea or something.

She was thirsty. She'd scream after she knew she wouldn't ruin her throat by doing it.

Screaming right. Dean was definitely more a 'let actions speak louder than words' strong, silent type when it came to fighting, but what the hell.

With a shrug, he opened up his mouth and let out a wordless yell.

Ray screamed. Not very loud or very powerful. He didn't like screaming.

Luke was still pretty sure the teacher was insane.

He was also having a difficult time imagining Ben or Yoda using this technique. With a mental shrug he opened his mouth and yelled.

...wow. Turns out that he had a bit of frustration to let out.

And he had quite a set of lungs.

Pippi considered for a while just how loud she was going to scream.

Then she screamed...

And the room shook... Some windows might crack, but nothing brakes.

Hopefully.

[[ooc: Yes, it's canon, she could cause a small to moderate earthquake and be heard all over the island. Fandom is smaller the Kurrakurradutt by my reckoning.]]

Lana grabbed at the sides of her ottoman and stared over at Pippi, looking quite shaken.

Pippi tilted her head at the blinking.

"Not loud enough?"

Now you know what you should be working up to.

Pippi gave Pip a smile that was only half sheepish.

Z took a deep breath and screamed her little heart out. Not literally. That would be messy and also fatal.
