Daisy was hovering over the coffee machine in the classroom again. Looked like these first thing in the morning classes weren't quite her cup of tea, as it were.
If they listened closely, the students might just overhear her mutter "my kingdom for Der Waffle House" under her breath as she sipped.
"Okay," she said when everyone had arrived and she was suitably caffeinated. "You guys had some good stuff to say on Edgesprinter last week, but we've got something that you might have even more to say about, this time. Love them, hate them, be entirely unaffected by them, never read them, pretty much everyone has heard of the Barry Plodder series. Today, we're going to take a look at bits of the first book, and corresponding scenes from the first movie. Feel free in the discussion to bring up anything else you might know about the series and how it got translated to the screen."
She passed out a few sheets of notes as well as book excerpts, and started the movie bits. When all that was done, she turned back to the class. "One of the biggest criticisms of the movie versions is how they don't include enough of the books. Considering that the books have gotten progressively longer and more intricately plotted, how might Hollywood work on incorporating more of the books into the movies? Should they try? What would you do, if you were tasked with making a movie of something as widely read, debated, and held dear as these books?"
She nodded slightly to Jaye. "And, yes, I understand there's a booming fan community for the books and movies, and that this community has its own . . . interesting facets. Feel free to discuss that as well, but try to get the other stuff in, first."
