Music is Love [1/19]: Period Two

The introduction music begins as Lorne appears on the stage in a flash of light.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! CHILDREN OF ALL AGES! DEMONS WHO CAN CARRY A TUNE! THIS IS MUSIC IS LOVE!"

Lorne then turned and looked at the camera. "Ryan Seacrest? Eat your heart out."

"Today our class will be focusing on the theme of "Blood, Ammo and Ice" in honor of our guest judges Emily Frostburn and Wading Pool!"

Lorne then gestured over to the judges table where (most likely) they were wondering what the heck Lorne was thinking.

"Let's get this class started kids! Who's up first?"

likeasponge whom I've forgotten to credit twice now. *hides from hair product packaging thrown in my general direction]

Door turns to the audience. "You really don't want to know what that means in rat."

...Then she screams into the microphone.

She has a remarkable scream: it can, with no artificial assistance, go through your head like a new power drill with a bone-saw attachment. And amplified, it is simply ~~a paragraph taken directly from canon and transposed into present-tense~~ unearthly.

The torch goes out in the Statue of Liberty, and birds in Australia randomly start moulting.

Jo staggered and shook her head. "You didn't do that last night ~~not dirty~~."

Rather than try and top that, she launched into the next verse.

Anything you can buy I can buy cheaper
I can buy anything cheaper than you

Door takes a breath and coughs.

A lot.

It's safe to say her sinuses are probably clear now too.

Nobody said pulling off that scream was without a price.

Fifty cents! she croaks.

Jo pointed at a random audience member and made the international sign for "Water, now", then pointed to Door.

Forty cents!

Door just croaks, "SOLD!" and rushes offstage to grab the nearest offered water glass.

Half of which she pours down her throat and half of which she splashes on her face.

When she makes it back up onto the stage, there's water dripping from her hair, but she looks.... well, fractionally more awake.

Anything you can say, I can say softer.... she whispers into the microphone.

Jo just mouthed her next line.

I can say anything softer than you

Door just sticks her tongue out, because it's not like she can say anything softer than that. Though at this point her throat is scratchy enough that she'd try.

Jo just snickered and stuck her tongue back out at Door.

Which just starts the giggling up again.

By this point Jo was giggling so hard, she had to sit down rather than risk falling off the stage.

I can...lick her faster than a flicker? Door's sort of forgotten the words a bit, yes.

Jo was barely able to stop laughing long enough to sing I can do her quicker and I'll keep her knickers

Yet another reason the karaoke machine at Harvelle's had a very short tenure.

Door stares, and then just bursts into outright snorts.

I can open any -- [FOR SOME REASON THE MICROPHONE EXPERIENCES A HUGE, LOUD BURST OF FEEDBACK RIGHT ABOUT THEN]

Jo looked incredibly impressed. "Really? How?"

Suddenly Lorne has leapt onto the stage. "Fantastic kids! Yes! Kids! For a FAMILY show! Yes! Everyone give it up for Joey and Doorknob!"

Door blinks at the interruption, then shrugs and goes with it.

"We've got a band name! We're called Concussion!"

"You're telling me," Emma mumbled. As they'd hit the 'higher than' part, she'd been sinking further and further down her chair, eyes wide and startled. She straightened a little and pointed at the duo. "Good span of voice thingy, but maybe you should work out your differences in the bedroom like normal peoples before coming to class? I mean, competishun."

"Oh, we did!" Door assures her. "We worked on it in my bedroom all night. Seely got really tired of listening to us by morning, but I had to do something to keep her going or she'd have fallen asleep."

Emma's eyebrows went up, and then she totally invaded her student's privacy by having a look in her mind. "Hmph. Not quite what I had in mind," she said, disappointed.

Not that Door would recognise somebody poking about in her mind unless they were doing it in hip-waders while swinging a shovel.

"...We shouldn't practice until we get it right?"

"Oh certainly you should! You should practice long and hard and get the mouth movements right. I've heard that's really important," Emma assured her.

"Mouth movements?" This is clearly an aspect of singing that Door hasn't run across before. "I'm not sure I know what you mean. Can you show me?"

"Wanna know what I can do better?" Wade asked before starting to chug from the bottle. When he stopped drinking, he burped loudly. "There we go."
