Abby welcomed the students into the danger room by handing out lab coats and directing them to the lab. "Last week was excellent, I'm totally impressed by your work! Because you guys turned out to know more than I thought, I'm bumping up the lessons plans. Today we're going to be focusing on two techniques."

"We're going to be looking for leftovers today. Leftover blood and leftover residue from a gun." Abby gave a quick lecture on the history, chemical basics and uses of Luminol. She didn't really care if you were taking notes or not. "What you need to remember for today's class is 'wetter is better'. Don't skimp on spraying the solution. You don't want to let the bad guy get off because you were nervous about getting the drapes soggy. Once you've sprayed the solution, use the portable blacklights to determine whether or not there's a glow."

"Next we're going to test for gunshot residue." Abby grinned and held up a plastic arm off a mannequin. "This is Creepy Pete, the criminal. He's going to help you learn today, aren't you, Pete?" The hand didn't respond. Running through a history of the chemicals used and the methods employed to test for gunshot residue, Abby finished up by grabbing a tube and brush. "It's easy as pie. You brush on the activator and then hold the hand under a special light. Ta-da! Creepy Pete has been up to no good."

Abby rubbed her hands together excitedly and pointed towards the crime scene door. "Now for the fun part! Today's crime scene is a mystery that you need to solve. The police found young Sam, the victim of an apparent suicide. But there are some concerns." Abby led the way to the doorway so that the students could see the crime scene, a small bedroom with light blue walls, a desk and chair, carpeted floors. Then there was the bed where Sam Winchester lay, seemingly dead, one hand lying on his chest and the sheet beneath his head slick with dried blood.

"Now," Abby had allowed a few moments for the crime scene to sink before speaking. "The first officers on the scene found a gun in Sam's hand, just lying across his chest. Such a perfect placement like that after shooting yourself in the head seemed a little iffy and add the fact that there's no blood spatter on the bed and you've got a possibility that this case isn't as open and shut as it looks. Check out the room with the the luminol and then check out Sam for gunshot residue. Pick up your handouts and your tools from the lab and then get to work. Use the evidence to figure out what happened and then catch the bad guy."

Lucas crouched down beside Broots and shook him. "Hey, wake up."

Abby hurried over from where she was standing at the door, kneeling next to Lucas and Broots. "I knew I should have brought smelling salts to class."

"Up and at em, Broots." Abby singsonged quietly. "I'll show you some really cool software I picked up off slightly illegal channels."

Lucas' eyebrows rose. "Software?" He sounded too eager. "I know I didn't pass out or anything, but if he wakes up, can I get in on some of that action?" He hastily added, "The software, I mean."

"Awww, of course. I'm happy to spread the love." Abby grinned at Lucas. "I love the fact that I got more geeks even though I didn't teach a computer class this semester. It's like I draw them to me. That's awesome!"

"You used to teach computers?"

"Intro, Advanced and Internet. I wanted to try something new this semester." Abby nodded. "You into computers?"

"Uh, yeah," Lucas nodded, half-grinning, "They're kinda my thing."

"Kinda your thing like you like to tinker and you have a myspace? Or kinda your thing like you can build one and speak fluent geek?"

"Kinda my thing as in I'm not at liberty to discuss my activities because for all I know you could be a government plant and I could get arrested if I told you what I did with my free time." Lucas gave his standard 'I'm joking, or am I?' look. "But maybe some time I could bring my computer in and you could take a look? I've made some modifications since I got here to get it to work with the systems here, and I could use a second opinion on some of the specifications."

Or he really just wanted an excuse to talk geek.

"Oddly enough, I am a government plant. Well, a military plant at least. I work for NCIS most of the time and I'm just here on sabbatical." Abby shrugged, totally fine with the answer Lucas had given. Not that she wouldn't be checking up on him later.

"That would be great! I love looking at other people's systems. You can bring it by class or I could actually show up for my own office hours and could check it out then."

"Definitely," Lucas said enthusiastically. "I'll do that. Are you a government-slash-military plant who could arrest me, or the happy friendly kind that I don't have to wipe my harddrive for?"

It didn't hurt to ask. What did hurt was that Lucas was too cocky for his own good when it came to asking stuff like that.

"I can't arrest anyone, so you're safe with me." Abby shrugged. "I could kill you and no one could ever trace it back to me, but that's a skill I wouldn't waste on the fact that you have Napster on your harddrive."

Funnily enough, that completely set Lucas' mind at ease. "Okay, I like you."

"Awww, I like you too!" Abby grinned and then looked down. "See, Broots, you're missing out on geekiness! Wake up!"

The geekiness talk actually did manage to wake Broots up a bit and he muttered something about micro-processors and the 25th century.

"Broots?" Abby leaned closer. "You okay?"

Broots groaned and covered his face with his hands.

"Welcome back to the land of the living." Abby smiled. "Speak in a full sentence so I know I don't have to send you to the clinic."

"Why didn't I realize this class would have a practical section?"

"On the plus side, in class you're safe from me corralling you into being a dead person." Abby grinned. "Let's get you up and sitting, okay? The chair over there has no fake blood on it, I promise."

Broots flailed. "The dead body told me the blood was real!"

"It's not going to jump out and get you, Broots. It's just blood." Abby rolled her eyes. "Which is usually part of a crime scene."

Broots flailed. "I like working with the theoretical!"

"Dude, our dead body talks. We're not really steeped in reality here."

Broots blushed. "Well...yeah."
