Hunting 101 - Class 2 (Wed period 7)

When students entered the Danger Shop they found themselves standing outside a large slightly rundown house. John was waiting for them, leaning comfortably against the side of an old impala. Beside him was a table, with the sign in sheet as well as another list of names paired up. It was also piled high with knapsacks.

"Welcome to our first practical class," John greeted them with a smile. "This is where we find out how well you apply what you've learned so far. Behind me is Elrod Manor. It's haunted by the ghost of a woman who was named Cassandra Elrod. She was killed by her husband Mark Elrod, who happened to be a serial killer. The legend goes that she found some rather grisly evidence of his activities and to keep her quiet he killed her and hid her body in the house.

"Since then her ghost has been seen countless times by many different people. They describe a very beautiful but sad woman who has appeared throughout the house but always disappeared at the end of the hallway on the second floor. There's also been an unusual number of accidents resulting in injury or death have occurred here. All of the victims have been married men. Those that have survived the attack describe a woman with features more horrific than beautiful."

He looked around at his students. "You're assignment is to lay her ghost to rest. Each of you will get one of this knapsacks that have everything in them that you should need to accomplish that. You'll work in pairs and each pair will go into the house in turn. As none of you are, to the best of my knowledge, married men, you should be relatively safe unless you antagonise her. My advice?" He smiled slightly. "Don't."

"Please pick up a knapsack and check the list to see who you are paired with and we'll get started."

When the students look inside the knapsacks they will find a flashlight, an EMF meter, an Infrared Thermal Scanner, a container of salt, lighter fluid and matches.

The list of pairings is as follows:

Jo Harvelle, Tannim Drake
M. Parker, Neil Parry
Isabel Evans, Dick Casablancas
Mealka Fray, Buffy Summers
Setsuna Sakurazaki, Liz Sherman
Blair Sandburg, Sokka
Chris Halliwell, Wyatt Halliwell
John Connor, Edward Elric and Luna Lovegood

When everyone had got their equipment and found their assigned partners. John grinned at them wolfishly. "So, who's first?"

[ooc: wait for ocd's are up! Have at it. :)]

Neil stayed back from Parker, trying not to get in her way and also turning around to keep an eye on their flank. Hey, it was standard sneak technique from Welton, keep one eye behind you at all times for Dorm Masters.

"Well, it doesn't really sound like she wanted to find out her husband did not nice things and then get murdered. I'd be pretty grumpy also."

Taking a quick look around, Neil made a bit of a face.

"Okay so...guess we've got to think like a murderer and figure out where he might have disposed of the body?"

"Basement," Parker said immediately. "If this place has one." She swept the flashlight in tandem with the EMF meter, then said thoughtfully, "Or possibly in one of the walls? More work, but harder for anyone to find her body..." Between Forensics and this class, she's going to need a *drink* tonight.

Giving their flank one more quick check, Neil began to look around for any basement like door looking areas.

"Basement would make the most sense, I agree but, I don't see anything looking much basement like."

He touched the wall...yanked his hand away at the idea of a body being there, then sucked in a deep breath and touched the wall again.

"Think we ought to do a quick recon of the place, see if we can find a basement? Either go down and start there and work our way up or rule it out and move on to Plan B?"

And yeah, it probably sounded like Neil wasn't all too keen on that wonderful horror movie faux paux of splitting up to cover more ground.

"Let's keep looking, and if this meter doesn't go off, we start at the bottom, work our way up. Together," Parker said firmly. "I don't see a basement door either," she added, opening up a door that proved to be a closet. She played the flashlight over the stairs. "The ghost usually appears on the second floor at some point-- I just want to be sure we don't miss anything."

Neil nodded and gave behind them another quick check, something he would keep doing at regular intervals before stepped up to help Parker look around the first floor.

"And it's not like the ghost is in any great hurry to leave." He pointed out a way to say that they had the time to take a bit of time and be thorough rather than slap happy.

Coming up to a door that might be basement like, Neil reached for the knob but didn't open it, till Parker had a chance to scan it with the EMF.

Parker scanned it, cocking an eyebrow. "Nada. Niento. Zip." She scanned herself and Neil and muttered, "We better not have gotten a broken one." She sighed and waited for him to open the door, then made a face at another closet. "Although I'm glad that for once? We're not all screaming and running with a couple dozen attackers coming at us at once."

"Well...I'm sure Professor Winchester is just saving that for the midterm." Neil said in a distracted tone as he plotted out a course to another door.

"And I think our instincts are right in that, we might see more activity on the second floor."

"More than likely." Parker kept the EMF focused, then stopped at the foot of the stairs, looking up speculatively. "Shall I go first? You're not married, but why tempt fate? She still might want to throw you over the banister."

"While my youthful male bravdo is taking a hell of a blow to it's ego...by all means, I'll be right behind you."

Hey, Parker was the senior after all.

"You might live through the school year, Neil." Parker grinned and started to ascend the stairs (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1189381.html?thread=68836101#t68836101).
