Last time we looked at the Villanovan period of Rome. Now, we're looking at some Grecian stuff. Let's look at some temples and talk about the religion associated with them. *turns off lights and puts up slides*

Homweork: Write me a small paragraph about the Parthenon's archaeological significance. What was it made for? What mythological scenes appear on the friezes and metopes? And don't forget to hand in any missing assignments.

Since there are only four of us now, I thought it would be kind of fun to spend the next few weeks looking at some key passages in Herodotus' Histories and look at the propaganda aspect of his work. Since we're not here to translate, I got the best translation I could find.

Homework: Read Book 1 by Monday. ((OOC: Don't worry about it. I'm not reading it in its entirety, so you don't either O_o)) And hand in any assignments that are missing.

Rory turns in both her linguistics and Greco-Roman assignments, pretty sure that she did quite well.

Beka hands in a neatly written essay about the Parthenon, dedicated to Athena Parthegenos, the virgin-birthed daughter of Zeus, who is the goddess of war and wisdom, patron of Odysseus. She's obviously done her research and has not only described the scenes but assessed the semiotic content of them.

(OOC: Because her mun's a geek like that.)
