Geordi sat behind his desk as he waited for his students to enter the classroom. Once everyone was seated and the noise had calmed down he stood up and walked around to the front of his desk. He surveyed the class before he spoke, “Good morning and welcome to Engineering 101,” he said in a clear voice, hoping that his nervousness wasn’t visible, “I’m Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge, you may address me as either Commander or Professor LaForge, I have no preference as to which.”

He paused, “as you can see from the syllabus on your desk this is going to a pretty intense course and it is important that you keep up to date with the work, however it is has also been designed for those who have had little or no experience with engineering so if the latter concerns you there really is no need to worry. If for some reason you discover that you’re having difficulties with any of the topics covered throughout the course feel free to see me and I’ll be happy to help, my contact details and office hours are on a separate sheet of paper on your desk,”

He leaned against his desk, “now today is going to be a basic class, just to cover what you should expect in this course and general introductions. Now I’d like for each of you to give me your name, year, one fact about you and why you’re taking Engineering 101,” he gave a small smile, “I’ll start, I’m Geordi LaForge, I’m a teacher, I’m currently taking leave from my position as Chief Engineer on the Federation starship Enterprise and I’m teaching engineering because I was offered the position as Engineering Professor even though I haven’t actually taught at a high school before,” he motioned at one of the students for them to give their introductions.

Introduce yourself

"My name's Bridge Carson, I'm a Cadet at the SPD Academy, and I'm here because I've spent most of my life building and repairing electronics and things, but I'd like to get some formal training."

Geordi nodded, "what type of electronics have you dealt with Bridge?" he asked.

"Hi! I'm Rikku, and I'm an Al Bhed, and ... " She bounces a bit and tries to reword her thoughts. "It's kinda like what he said." She points at Bridge. "I can take things apart and put them back together but I don't know how they work or why and all that and I want to."

Geordi smiled, "well hopefully this course will be able to give you an insight into how they function,"

"My name's Lucas. Computers are my thing, mostly robotics and AI, but I can pretty much figure out how anything works if I've got the schematics or enough time. I used to live on a submarine called the SeaQuest where I was a computer engineer...and now I'm here." He didn't sound too happy about it, but he was getting used to the idea.

"How long have you been a computer engineer?" Geordi asked.

"Hello!" Kaylee greeted excitedly. "My name's Kaylee and I'm from the future. I'm here because I'm the mechanic on my ship back home. Even though I keep her runnin' and I know how to repair things, I ain't ever had formal trainin.'"

"How far into the future are you from Kaylee?" Geordi asked, he figured that he couldn't be the only one who was from far into the future.

"My name is Willow Rosenberg," Willow said. "I'm a junior and I love working with anything computer related. I figured this class would help add pep to my computer step."

"With any luck this course should help you with that," Geordi told her.

Peter was wishing he could just sink into the floor at this point. "I'm Peter Pevensie. I'm a junior, and I, err, took this class because I thought it was going to be about siege engines..."

"I'll be covering a history of engineering as part of this course," Geordi replied, "it won't be too in depth but siege engines will be covered in that topic, unfortunately it's not going to be covered in the engineering disciplines that we'll be looking at,"

John perks up at the idea of siege warfare, and idly sketches a catapult. And then a cowtapult. And a pianotapult...

"My name is Cally, and I'm also a junior. I'm here because if I'm going to end up in the Colonial Fleet, which I am, I figured some more engineering knowledge would be kinda helpful."

"My name is Jamie Madrox and I'm taking this class because I have no background and engineering and thought it would be helpful if I wanted to be a train conductor. Kidding. Just thought it would be interesting."

Geordi smiled, it wasn't the first time since he had come to Fandom that he'd heard the train reference to engineering, "well I hope you find this course interesting and helpful," he said.

"Uh, I'm Jim Ellison, I'm a sophomore, and I'm taking this class because ~~my mun is a pathetic Trekkie~~ it's the closest thing to Shop I could find."

~~squee~~ Geordi nodded, "Hopefully you'll find this to be of some use,"

"My name is Ami Mizuno, i am a freshman, and i have not had any engineering experience yet. I have had much Maths and Sciences though and i am very eager to learn."

"My name is Tannim, I'm a sophmore, and I love to work on electronics and car engines and stuff. I'm here because I want to see if I could maybe do that for a living someday," Tannim said.

"I'm Broots, a junior, and I really, really like computers, hacking, and programming."

"My name is Peter Parker, I'm a junior, and I have some experience with engineering. A couple years ago I put together a device that shoots a superstrong liquid string adhesive that has practical applications for rescue, transportation, and law enforcement." Peter usually called those webshooters, but this guy was an engineer on a freaking starship. Calling them by their nickname would have felt kind of childish.

"I'm John Connor. I'm pretty familiar with computers, cyborgs, and building tech. Hacking and hotwiring. figure I'd get a more formal education, see how the books stack up."
