Geordi sat behind his desk as he waited for his students to enter the classroom. Once everyone was seated and the noise had calmed down he stood up and walked around to the front of his desk. He surveyed the class before he spoke, “Good morning and welcome to Engineering 101,” he said in a clear voice, hoping that his nervousness wasn’t visible, “I’m Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge, you may address me as either Commander or Professor LaForge, I have no preference as to which.”

He paused, “as you can see from the syllabus on your desk this is going to a pretty intense course and it is important that you keep up to date with the work, however it is has also been designed for those who have had little or no experience with engineering so if the latter concerns you there really is no need to worry. If for some reason you discover that you’re having difficulties with any of the topics covered throughout the course feel free to see me and I’ll be happy to help, my contact details and office hours are on a separate sheet of paper on your desk,”

He leaned against his desk, “now today is going to be a basic class, just to cover what you should expect in this course and general introductions. Now I’d like for each of you to give me your name, year, one fact about you and why you’re taking Engineering 101,” he gave a small smile, “I’ll start, I’m Geordi LaForge, I’m a teacher, I’m currently taking leave from my position as Chief Engineer on the Federation starship Enterprise and I’m teaching engineering because I was offered the position as Engineering Professor even though I haven’t actually taught at a high school before,” he motioned at one of the students for them to give their introductions.

Peter was wishing he could just sink into the floor at this point. "I'm Peter Pevensie. I'm a junior, and I, err, took this class because I thought it was going to be about siege engines..."

He puffed out an audible breath while he thought about it. Eventually he had to shrug. "I started young. Four, maybe five when I started tinkering with the basics. I was on the SeaQuest for about a year, but I did some work for some civilian companies before that and I've been inventing things since I can remember."

He really hoped he wasn't sounding too much like a dork to the others.

"Well a starship, well is another name for a spaceship," Geordi replied, smiling at Rikku's enthusiasm, "and in a nutshell yes, that's what my job as Chief Engineer entailed, well I guess it still entails" he paused, "and I hope that I can teach the basics of engineering, which includes fixing engines,"

"Oh, 500 years or so," Kaylee replied with a grin.

"Yes Lucas?" Geordi replied.

V. Cally

He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "This is going to sound a little presumptuous seeing as though I don't really know you, and you don't know me, but if you're in the market for a TA, I'm interested. Or if you've got any on-going projects I can get in on, I'm interested. Anything."

Lucas and boredom did not go well together. He knew this and wanted to be prepared.

"My name is Cally, and I'm also a junior. I'm here because if I'm going to end up in the Colonial Fleet, which I am, I figured some more engineering knowledge would be kinda helpful."

"I'll be covering a history of engineering as part of this course," Geordi replied, "it won't be too in depth but siege engines will be covered in that topic, unfortunately it's not going to be covered in the engineering disciplines that we'll be looking at,"

Jamie Madrox

"Well I am looking for a TA," Geordi nodded, "it sounds like you'd be capable for it, would you like the position?" he pretty much knew what the answer would be but it didn't hurt to ask.

"My name is Jamie Madrox and I'm taking this class because I have no background and engineering and thought it would be helpful if I wanted to be a train conductor. Kidding. Just thought it would be interesting."

"What do you already know about engineering?" Geordi asked.

Geordi smiled, it wasn't the first time since he had come to Fandom that he'd heard the train reference to engineering, "well I hope you find this course interesting and helpful," he said.

"Yes," Lucas said a little too quickly. "Absolutely."

"I'm looking forward to it," Willow said. "Will we only be learning about starship technology?"

Willow scooted her chair over. "Hi."

Still working on not headdesking, Peter tilted his head to smile at her. "Hi."

"You're kind of cute when you're blushy," Willow said.

Peter nodded, still wishing floor sinking was an option. "My misunderstanding. I ought to have looked at it more closely."

"I'm combining this course to include both past, present and future technology," Geordi replied, "since not everyone is from the same time period this will hopefully make the course a little easier,"

"Then consider the job yours," Geordi smiled.

And that actually made Peter blush more. "You're kinda mean sometimes."

"I am not!" Willow said, pouting. "I think you're wonderful."

"Oh yay!" Willow said, probably far too happy about this. "So three notebooks, you think? For each time period?"
