20th Century History, Tuesday, 6th Period

Daniel is looking bright eyed and bushy tailed at the front of the classroom. This could have to do with the cup of coffee he's protectively craddling.

"Good afternoon," he said. "My name is Dr. Daniel Jackson and this is 20th Century History."

"I don't have an official syllabus; I prefer to keep this relaxed and see where everything takes us. If there's anything in specific you'd like to look at this semester, just let me know.

"To start, I'd like for you all to introduce yourselves and tell me why you decided to take this course. And here's a perfect opportunity to tell me what you'd like to study."

After the introductions were made, Daniel turned to the blackboard.

"Today, I'm going to start with looking at a number of events that happened during the first couple of years and then I'd like you to each pick an event, take a couple of minutes and flesh out a few more details on them. In 1900, there was the Boxer Rebellion in China and in the first of three deaths we're looking at today, Italy's King King Umberto I was assassinated. In academics, Max Planck formulated Quantum Theory and don't worry, I'm not expecting any of you to understand that, and Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams.

"Continuing to 1901, Australia's colonies formed a Federation and the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. 1901 had a couple of firsts; the first Nobel prizes were awarded, and also, the first Trans-Atlantic radio signal was sent. Britain's Queen Victoria died this year, and US President McKinley was assassinated.

"Now. Hopefully one of those events will have interested you and if not, I'm sorry. Just a couple of details on whichever one you chose would be good, and then once you've presented, you're free to go."

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said, "I took this course because I'm interested in studying history, um ... I'm not sure about an area that I'd like to study,"

Sakura, being used to standing up when asked to speak to the class, does so, bowing forward slightly. "My name is Sakura Kinomoto," she explains(it always felt so strange to give her family name after her given). "History has always been my favourite subject, so I tried to take as many History-related courses my last semester as I could." She frowned. "As for what I'd like to study..." She pursed her lips. "As far as History goes, I would have to say that currently I'm interested in the early 1900s," Which is just perfect, so far. "Because I know a few people in Fandom from that time period and would like to know more about it."

"I'm Steerpike. I've signed up for this course because it seems as though I'm from a place that doesn't exist in this universe, and as such, am unaware of much of your history."

Sakura knew a little about McKinley's assassination from a class she'd taken at home on United States History, and flipped through one of her older history notebooks, and recites from it. "President William McKinley was shot twice by an anarchist by the name of Leon Czolgosz with a concealed revolver at approximately 4pm on September 6, 1901." She then set the notebook down and recited what she remembered. "The first bullet shot did not fatally wound the president, though the second was never found to be removed. He was not killed instantly and in fact recovered until the 14th of September when Gangrene surrounded the bullet and he went into shock. He was buried in Canton, Ohio."

Liz gave a presentation on the formation of the Commonwealth of Australia, as she remembered studying Australia in previous history lessons that she had taken and that the mun was bias on account of being Australian "on January 1, 1901 the six seperate British colonies of Australia: New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia came together to form a Federation and become the Commonwealth of Australia. There were previous attempts to unite the colonies to become one country however those attempts failed. The plan to unite Australia was successful in the late 1890s as a result of a referendum and in 1900 the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act was passed with royal approval. Australia then became a Constitutional Monarchy with the head of state being the king of England, the first Australian prime minster was Edmund Barton,"
