fandomhigh | Superheroing 101- Tuesday, January 9- 2nd period

When the students walk in, they should notice a woman standing at the front of the room. Wearing a really pretty revealing costume... and a cardigan over it so students won't be staring at her chest. Shhh. It's more professional for the first day.

"Good morning!" she says once everyone's taken their seats, a syllabus on every desk. "I'm Captain Liberty, and welcome to Superheroing 101. I am a professional superhero. Trust me, I wouldn't dress like this on a normal basis." God, she hates the cardigan. She feels like one of those really young teachers she had in school who used to dress like her grandma. Luckily she's missing the lacy collar and the flats with bows on them. "In this class, you'll get to learn the ins and outs of identifying a bad guy, getting rid of one, and also dealing with the, um, more personal sides of it. And by the way, no, I don't have superpowers. They're great and definitely a help if you have them, but hopefully by the end of this you'll figure out that having common sense and the right mindset helps just as much. Also, if you know the people I do, common sense is kind of a rarer commodity." Sigh.

"But for now the first thing we're going to do is decide on superhero names. You'll be using these names- not your real ones- anytime you're in class," she says, and yes she's pleased with coming up with that when she has three Peters in the class. "The only thing I ask is that if you are going to go into professional superheroing, or already do, don't use your real fake name. If anyone in the class goes evil and turns into a supervillain, you don't want them knowing your real identity. That gets messy.

"Once we've done that, we're going to go around the room so you can introduce yourselves. Go ahead and add in any powers you're willing to divulge and if you have a superheroing experience, feel free to tell a story. Plus, naturally being both teenagers and potential superheroes, you're bound to want to talk about yourself somehow. We're all about sharing here!"

Which isn't code for Captain Liberty failing at coming up with an actual assignment for class yet, nope.

Teddy went the easy way and decided to just use his normal superhero name. "Hulkling!"

Cassie b'zuhed. "We're not supposed to use those!"

Teddy made a face. "What else am I supposed to call myself? Major Green?"

"I like Hulkling," He grumbled under his breath.

"I like it too," Cassie said. "And... how about... Gear Box?"

Teddy stared. "You are so not allowed to pick names."

"Hey!" Cassie said. "I helped pick Wicca!" She pouted.

"Sure, but 'Gear Box'?" Teddy said. "That sounds like a bad porn name."

"They both... shift... stuff," Cassie said.

Teddy was slowly becoming aware of Cassie's love for mechanical boys.

"I'm sticking with Hulkling," Teddy said. "Already tried to go with something else and had it ruined by makeup."

Cassie blinked. "Makeup?"

"Don't ask," Teddy said. "Just... don't ask."

Cassie crossed her arms and looked at Teddy. "Oh, come on, you have to, now."

Molly happened to overhear this statement and snickered behind her hand.

Teddy glared sulkily at Molly. "Stupid Pink Thing."

Molly smirked and stuck her tongue out at him.

"Okay, you've got kind of an oxymoron name going on there, with both the 'hulk' and the 'ling'. Also it's a good play on words," she says. "And when it goes right over people's heads, you've earned that little bit of superiority. So what can you do?"

Superiority? He never thought about his name like that. Way cool.

"Shapeshifting and super strength," Teddy said proudly.

"Terrific! Good combo! Any experience in saving the day?"

Teddy looked over at Cassie. "Uh, yeah. A little."

"Any good stories?"

Teddy tried to think of one of the instances that didn't end badly. "I helped save people from a fire once."

"Terrific," Captain Liberty says, brightening. "What happened?"

Teddy blinked. "Uh, there was a fire and my and my friends got the people out before the building burned down." Was he supposed to say more? He shifted around nervously. "We were in the paper the next day."

"Good start," she says. "How'd you use your powers to help?"

"I carried people out of the building?" Teddy certainly didn't mention getting burned a few times because that just didn't seem as heroic. And also, OW.
