Popular Culture [Monday, January 8, 7th period]

The classroom looked ordinary enough, not much surprises around or squirrels Rose hoped. She took a chalk and wrote:

'21st Century Popular Culture" then after some debate added, "Earth."

Rose faced the class and tried not to look so nervous, they looked to be a varied bunch.

"Right, I'm Rose Tyler." She began, "You can refer to me as 'Ms. Tyler' in class but hopefully not outside of it, since Ms. Tyler would likely be my mother." Rose distributed the handouts. "Before we begin, I'd like everyone to introduce themselves and what, exactly, each of you will be expecting from this class."

Parker studied her face. Definitely older than the Rose Tyler of last year. "Not-- exactly. You don't know me, do you?"

"I'm afraid not," Rose admitted, "I suppose you knew the other Rose Tyler too?"

"We met a couple times. She was a senior, we didn't hang out much. She dated a friend of mine very, very briefly." Parker cocked her head, studying Rose. "But that wasn't even you, with time passing. It wasn't you at all."

There might have been an implied 'yay!' in there.

"I see." Rose said not seeing it at all, then remembered her time at Caritas, "This friend of yours wouldn't be someone named Jarod, would it?"

"Possibly... okay, yes." She folded her arms, and tried to look innocent. "The other Rose blew him off. I was going to have words with her if she'd come back, but, it appears that's unnecessary. I'm Parker, by the way."

Rose winced, that sounded too much like how she was when she was younger.

"In behalf of my younger self, I'm real sorry." Rose said.

Parker's smile became more genuine. "It's fine. I don't think Jarod held a grudge. It wasn't that long." She cocked her head, and very casually said, "Although, if you were going to pick up where she left off, well...."

"Blimey," Rose said, taken aback, "I don't think so, granted he's pretty but I like men more my age group or older." Like centuries older.

Okay, now that smile is a *lot* wider. "Just as well, probably. What with one thing and another. And I know what you mean about older men." Not that a year and a half is all that much older... and okay, willing to make an exception for certain ship-in-a-bottle-building parties-- Parker dragged her thoughts back on course, and said, "Well, thanks for clearing that up. And welcome to Fandom. I hope you have fun teaching this course."

Rose watched the smile grow bigger. Ah, no wonder.

"Aren't they just?" Rose agreed, returning the smile. "Anytime. Thanks for stopping by too, Parker."
