Good Omens...And Bad: Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Lab Fourteen

As always, students have their pick of a nice arrangement of breakfast treats and beverages. The seating has been arranged into more of a circle than the usual pairs, and in one of the chairs is seated a blond boy in his mid-teens.

"Good morning, everyone! I want to remind everyone that your final projects are due in the box in my office by the end of the day.

This has been an amazing experience for me, and I want to thank all of you again for making my first teaching job such an enjoyable one.

Today, since it's our very last day, we're going to forego the usual experiments. Instead, we have a guest speaker, who's going to tell you a little bit about his experiences with being the subject of a prophecy. Class, this is an acquaintance of mine from Lower Tadfield, Adam Young."

"That's okay," Adam said. "I think I'm here to answer them, after all."

"So how do you deal with the way huge destiny thing?" She asked, since he'd mostly offered to answer her questions.

"I ignore it," Adam said. "And do what I want to do, which isn't that whole conquering the world thing at all."

"You really don't think about it at all?" She looked a bit confused. "How do you do that?"

"Why'd you want to conquer the world, anyway? Rather poitnless. Just like how good can't fully triumph over evil or vice versa. It'd be boring, wouldn't it?"

"Well, yeah," Dawn conceded, brushing some hair out of her eyes, "but a greater percentage of boring would be okay, I think."

"Guess we'll have to disagree about that, then," Adam said.

"Sure. I disagree with lots of people." Dawn wasn't very bothered by that idea. "So, what do you like to read?"

Adam held up his copy of New Aquarian, a new age magazine. "I tried to read comics when I was younger, but they just couldn't live up to what I can come up with in here." He tapped at his head.

"What do you want to do when you're older?" Dear Giles. Today, I met the Antichrist. He's actually very friendly, although his taste in reading material is questionable... "And do you get any, y'know, abilities with your whole gig?"

"Well, if I'm not careful, the world can sort of... bend to my will," Adam said.

"Are people afraid of you?"

"Not really," Adam said. "Other than Aziraphale here, and that Crowley guy, no one knows what I am."

Dawn hadn't met Crowley and had no idea who Adam was talking about. "Do you ever get the urge to just tell everyone? Like take out an ad in the paper or something?" Not like she'd ever considered it...

"I like people treating me for who I am, not cause I'm the son of someone," Adam said. "Much more fun that way."

"Fun how?"

"Means that when they yell at me, they're yelling at me for what I'm actually responsible for," Adam smiled.

And that made sense, mostly. "Wouldn't you rather not get yelled at at all?"

"Oh, like you've never had fun doing something your parents or crotchety old neighbors yelled at you for?" Adam asked.

"I've had a bunch of it, but that doesn't mean I liked the yelling part--I tried to avoid it as much as I could."

"Yeah, but it's not like you can just stop it from happening," Adam said.

"Me, no," she shrugged, "but couldn't you? I mean, if you wanted?"

"That'd be wrong," Adam said.

"Well, yeah, I know that," Dawn said.

"And so do I," Adam said.
