Monday, December 18, First Period

Extra care seems to have been put into the spread of breakfast offerings this morning -- muffins, bagels, coffeecake, spice bread, and scones. As well as plenty of hot beverages, and several types of juice. Aziraphale appears to be in a particularly mellow mood, although he frowns now and again when the thought crosses his mind that this is the very last meeting for this class.

"First off, I want to tell all of you how very much I've enjoyed teaching you, and just getting to know you. I'm going to miss this class terribly, and I do hope that even if you don't enroll in my class next term, you'll still stop by for a visit now and again.

Today, in place of a lecture, we're going to have an open discussion. I want to hear your views on what we've covered in class this term, and I also want to hear any questions that might have gone unanswered. There'll be a drop box for your final group projects to be turned in outside my office door, and it will remain there until Friday afternoon.

Truly, this has been a remarkable experience for me, and although I do expect to be seeing some of you for our final lab session on Friday, I want to thank all of you for making my very first teaching experience a wonderful and memorable one."

"555-CBUC," Anders told him. The pen was still in his mouth, and when he started talking it started to fall out, which required a little creative tongue maneuvering to prevent.

Bel bent his head over the phone, trying very hard not to look at Anders's tongue. Or think about his tongue. Or what he could do with that tongue. "So, yeah," he said. "Now I have it."

"Uh huh." Pen still in mouth, same maneuvering required. "So next time you say you're gonna come hang out and something else comes up, you know how to get a hold of me."

Bel sighed and groaned silently. "It's been a weird week. Marie, then Tortall, and now I gotta save my father...."

Anders squinted at him. "Yeah, okay," he conceded reluctantly. "You get the benefit of the doubt this time."

"What are you doing for the holidays?" Bel asked, trying to change the subject a little.

"Staying here," Anders replied, and finally took the pen out of his mouth, wiping it off on his sleeve. "No point in going home for a holiday we don't celebrate."

"Good point," Bel said. "I'm going to LA to visit Angel myself."

"Lucky," Anders replied, his voice dropping a little. "Least you'll have friends around. I'm gonna be spending this one completely on my own."

"There'll be people around, won't there?" Bel said. "Not everybody is going away."

Anders shrugged. "Maybe not. Still gonna be on my own, though."

"That sucks, man," Bel said sympathetically.

"And not even well," Anders added with a sardonic grin.

Bel had been raising his glass to take a drink of water.

This was a mistake.

He coughed and sputtered, trying to deny the image that Anders's words were conjuring.

"Whoa, man, you okay?" Anders asked quickly. "Dude, you gotta be careful when you swallow, you know?"

That? Did not help matters. Bel managed to get his coughing under control, and hoped the redness of his face would be attributed to the coughing fit and not something else.

"Easy, man, breathe," Anders said. "In and out. In and out."

If Bel could kill with the power of his mind, he probably would.

He ducked his head, refusing to look Anders in the eyes. "I'm fine, I'm fine," he said.

Aww. But he really wouldn't want to do that to poor innocent Anders, would he? That would be a shame.

"My ass you are," Anders replied.

"It just went down the wrong way!" Bel protested.

Anders sighed and shook his head amusedly. "I can't take you anywhere, can I?"

"I do the taking," Bel shot back without thinking.

Anders smirked. "Fine by me."

And that resulted in more coughing. "My girlfriend's sitting right over there," Bel hissed. "Watch it."

"You said it," Anders pointed out, "not me."
