American Political Campaigning - Final, Period 1

The exam was face down on the desk. The sub teacher was at the front, but wasn't interested in talking to anyone. Take the test and get on outta here.

1) Define the following terms: negative campaigning, GOTV, incumbent
2) Why do you think the 2006 midterm elections turned out the way they did?
3) If you were trapped in a campaign office for six months would you prefer to live on a) coffee and cigarettes b) pizza and soda c) random "stews" people drop off and bologna sandwiches with mayonnaise on white bread. If you answer c) what is wrong with you?

Dear Professor Lyman,

Thank you so much for your inspired teaching. It was a brief ray of sunshine in an otherwise partly-cloudy day. May your campaign chest always be full, your chicken dinners not taste like rubber and I hope one day you'll finally tell us your secret for fighting inflation.

Love and Cuddles,

Clarence

Dear Professor Lyman,

Thanks for taking what was already a unique and interesting electoral season and making it even more fun.

Isabel Evans.

1) Negative campaigning: A campaign that uses fear, innuendo, distortion of facts in order to paint an opponent in a bad light. Use of unflattering photos are a must.
GOTV: Gopher TV. All Gophers. All the time.
incumbent: Dirty rotten bastard who coasts through on midterm elections because nobody is paying attention. Usually.
2) War! *grunt* Good God, y'all! What is it good for? Absolutely Nothing. SAY IT AGAIN!
3) B. Pizza contains all four food groups. It's health food. Really.

1) Negative campaigning: focusing on why your opponent sucks rather than why you rock.
GOTV: Right-wing television. Fox News.
incumbent: The candidate in a race who already has the job. Usually difficult to knock out in years not ending in 2006.
2) Everybody's sick of the damn war.
3) Pizza and soda. But I pretty much live on that anyway.

1) Negative Campaigning - twisting facts to make the other guy look bad. GOTV - Motivating people to get off their asses and go vote. Incumbent - If a democrat, the guy in the seat that must be defended at all cost. If a republican, the idiot that has to go.
2) It's the war stupid!
3) Pizza and soda of course. Protein and caffiene is all you need.
