Basic Acting, final class

The Basic Acting classroom had been transformed since the last time the students had been there. Instead of a mostly blank classroom for varying improvised scenes, it was decked out to the nines to look like the lobby of a posh hotel. Curtains hung from the walls in gold and red, gilded mirrors decked out every wall, and the desks had all been replaced with couches and chaise lounges. The teachers' desk had become a reception desk, complete with a guest book and signs for various credit cards.

Daisy herself was lying back on one of the couches, a kitchen knife sticking realistically (and bloodily) out of her chest as she relaxed, reading a book of plays.

The only thing that remained unchanged was the chalk board, which now had the following written on it:

Welcome to Hotel Adair!

It's the morning after a murder in a remote hotel. Overnight, someone
murdered the hotel manager with a knife. There was a large storm
which took out the local roads and the power, so no one was able to
come in or leave since the evening before the murder occurred. All
the people in the hotel have gathered together with the detective,
who has to ask the witnesses questions to find out who the murderer is.

Your detective is John Crichton. Please do as he asks.

Continental breakfast is complimentary!

Sure enough, a spread of brunch finery, complete with lox, cream cheese, scrambled eggs, and varying bread-y goods from J,GOB was laid out on a table at the back of the room, along with coffee, tea, and orange juice.

[ooc: you should all have received emails with your role for this large improv scene today. If you did not, please contact me so I can assign you one. This post is open until Saturday for play to accommodate for multiple time zones. Have at ye, and have fun!]

"Detective Burns," John answered. "Miss Jones-Smith, do you work here?"

"Yeah, I sing in the lounge. Is this gonna take long? I didn't make it home last night an' my mom's watchin' my kids, an' she's real sick, and oh, what'm I talkin' about, you don't care about my problems. You care about who killed that rip-off bitch, right?"

Joe made several notes at this. "The hotel manager, yes. I'm guessing you and she didn't see eye to eye?"

"Yeah. She told me she was gonna pay me thirty percent of the take, an' then yesterday suddenly it's fifteen percent. Fifteen percent! I got bills to pay, y'know? But I totally didn't kill her!" she added quickly, realizing how this sounded. "I bitched about it a bunch, but Gawd, I'm no killer! I got drunk with the cook whose name I don't know yet an' bitched at the housekeeper ditto, an' then I went straight to bed. Booze always knocks me out," she added wryly.

Joe nodded and made notes of all this. "Did you know anyone else with reason to dislike the hotel manager?"

Scarlett rolled her eyes. "Everybody? She was a bitch. An' vaguely gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I mean, my first husband, he turned out to be a gay; ran off with my drummer, that's why I don't have a band any more." But Scarlett digresses. She tugged on the ends of her hair thoughtfully for a moment, then, as something made its way through the alcohol-soaked haze that was the previous night, said, "Oh, y'know, the housekeeper said somethin' oughta be done about her rippin' me off. An' I hate to say this, because she's I assume it's a she? been a good friend to me, but..." she leaned over and gestured for Joe to come closer. "She can be a little off in the head, y'know?"

Joe nodded, pursing his lips thoughtfully. "Do you recall if anyone saw you confronting the hotel manager about not receiving 30% of the money?"

"No. But probably. I mean, I wasn't exactly quiet about it."

Zero internally flailed as she was asked for information that hadn't been on her character sheet. She covered it up by doing her best impression of her ex-manager Tiffany, smiling vacuously and twirling her hair around her fingers. "Almost a month," Scarlett finally said.

"I don't think so," she said after thinking hard for a moment. "If I think of anything, I'll tell you, though."
