Science! Fair! (Thursday, Period 7)

The lab classroom was set up to display the students' projects and Ms Frizzle was bouncing from booth to booth, looking at everything. She didn't appear to be doing any grading, but be sure it still counted towards final marks. Written on the board was "Final exam next week! Good luck on all your others!"

There was no study guide. Then again, there had never really been a lesson.

[[Please wait for the OCD. Go! Play! Enjoy!

Everyone is welcome to come check out the projects, please wait until a member of the group has tagged in.

Ms Frizzle will be coming around and talking to everyone, but as of midnight or one tonight I am AFK until at least Saturday, possibly longer.]]

There was the classic, required posterboard full of information that people never read and pictures that people only glance at, but the cool part of the project came from their display.

"Okay, right," so there were Ranma and Chad, dressed to show off all their own muscular glory. There were big heavy weights scattered at their feet. "No one's gonna be surprised when we do this." And both of them effortlessly lifted the big heavy weights. "We clearly got the muscles that attribute to this kinda strength. But..."

They set the weights down, and Chad picked up a nearby bucket of water. "What if the muscles aren't so obviously big? ...Ready, Ranma?"

"Yeah."

Chad dumped the bucket of water on Ranma, grabbing a fluffy pink towel for his girl form to dry off before continuing on with the next part. "Kay, now, see, Ranma's in his less muscly, but much prettier, girl form," he moved on quickly from that point in case Ranma still hadn't caught the added modifier. "But the muscles he does have still have retained a lot of the strength from the lifetime of hard work and training they've accumulated. 'Cause, see, he can still lift the weight," which Ranma does, "no problem. He can even," at this point, Chad lifted up his weight and then Ranma came over and lifted him, effortlessly, although Chad had to struggle a bit to retain his balance, but he was doing much better than last time Ranma lifted him, "lift more."

"Okay, Ranma, seriously, let me down."

"So, see, as Ranma just showed us, muscles don't have to be big," flex, "to be effective. Y'jus' gotta keep 'em in shape, and they can do pretty cool things."

Chad grabbed a waiting glass of water. That was a lot of freakin' talking.

Chad's eyes shifted over toward Ranma. Did he remember to research the muscle resistance ceilings? Uhhh, probably not. He turned around to check their poster board. "Yup. Right there." And pointed to the line on one of the nicely printed sheets of information.

Pippi applauded Chad's speech from her tank (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1158667.html?thread=65331211#t65331211).

Pippi and handwavy JD have done a project about gills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gills).

To illistrate how gills work, there are posters, and Pippi has dressed up like a mermaid (http://images.ulcron3.com/www.ulcron3.com/castle-mermaid.jpg). She's had some gillyweed and is swimming around a 15' inflatable pool (http://platinumgalleria.com/intex-pool-set-15x36b.jpg).

Go ahead. Ask her a question.

Pippi stuck her head out of the water and grinned at Ms. Frizzle, causing the gills on her neck to ruffle and flare out in a sort of secondary smile.

"Unlike many small aquatic animals, which can absorb oxygen through the entire surface of their bodies, more complex aquatic organisms have localized respiratory organs called gills..." She tilts her head to display the gills on her neck.

"...specially formed to present an adequate surface area to the external environment. Gills are usually thin plates of tissue or slender tufted processes and, with the exception of some aquatic insects, they contain blood or coelomic fluid, which exchanges gases through their thin walls."

Wphew! She remembered it all!

Naomi's presentation included a model of the USS Voyager (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/USS_Voyager/).

She was prepared to talk about space exploration.

Will grinned nervously, and started gesturing over the important bits on her cardboard science fair presentation board.

"Electricity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity)! It's a great thing that we use all the time for appliances and stuff. But what is it exactly, and where did it come from, and who discovered it? In my science project, I've tried to answer those things.

She looked around, her face very slowly turning the same shade as her hair. "Any questions?"

Tyler had an assortment of small fireworks and chemicals. He's prepared to demonstrate making a fire without using a match.
