Chad really wanted to know if Professor Lyman actually wrote that in the lesson plan, and, instead of studying, was trying to figure out how to construct some device that could allow him to find out from where he was sitting. Yes, he realized that he could have very easily just gotten up, loomed for a moment, and found out that way, but this was a little more engaging.
