Language classes, Wednesday

All language classes:

Instead of a written quiz, I think you are ready for oral. I want you all to chose a partner or two and carry on a conversation with the vocabulary you've learned to far. You may use one language if you wish, or all that we've studied so far in your classes.

I will be grading you on accuracy, pronounciation, and how you explain yourself in anything but English should you hit a snag in your vocabulary so far.

Don't forget to
sign up for a presentation. If you have not by the end of school Friday, I will assume you don't intend to.

Don't forget there is lab today and I am also available during my
office hours should you have a particular question.

[ooc: talk amongst yourselves. show your forgeign language skills however you like. inaccuracy is expected, as most of you beginners. and it's more fun that way!]

Charlie blinks a few times. "Crumpets?"

Hastily he adds, "//Six-ten also.//" Latin slips in, "//Home is England.//" He thinks for a moment. "I have no idea how you say American in classical Greek."

"Me neither. Wanna go to Latin?" Max asks, sheepishy. "And yeah. I'm American."

"//Latin words favored: 'By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.' ... Read the important text filled-up by pictures, name [V for Vendetta]?//"

Max likes that graphic novel a whole lot.

He's much more at home in Latin, too. He's been studying it forever. "//I have never heard of [V for Vendetta]. What sort of book is it?//"

"//It is a ... [urg, apocalyptic?] comic illustration book. Graph..[-ical?]. Do [Charlie] enjoy Fandom Secondary School?//"

He pulls on his tie, loosening it. This is hard. His Latin's much better than his Greek, for sure -- but they're still both utter shit.

"[Oh, a comic. Okay.] //I don't read many of those. My mother thinks they are--[crikey, what's the word]--bad for the mind?//

"//I like very much to be at school. But I miss home. I play in a,//" he scowls, the word's not quite right, "//musical group and I miss it.//

"//But the people here are good. You like Fandom Secondary School?//"

"//Your mother...//" Max starts. And then decides against it. That would be offensive, even in Latin. He amends his statement and asks: "//What sound of music sound do you sound of? Marble? [Ah, shit. I meant, 'rock'... not, like, 'ROCK'] Uh... Do you music today?//"

Charlie raises an eyebrow and says simply, "//Catholic school.//"

Which should explain a lot.

"//We play modern music, and I am in the class of music of Instructor Logan. Do you play music?//"

Max nods emphatically about Catholic school and blurts out, in English, "Me too! Even though I'm a Jew. But, me too! For eight years!"

He clears his throat and settles down. It does explain a lot. They are now brothers in Catholic school dogma. It wasn't all nuns and priests at Max's Rushmore, however. Although some of the heathen teachers were damned near saints, in Max's mind.

"//Yes. I play brass objects in school function. Do you...//" He thinks, hard, and then lowers his voice, "[Do you know how to run a board? I'm going to need someone to do sound for the play I'm putting on later this year.]"

[ooc: I have to work for a bit. So if I'm slow in tagging back, that's why. :-) ]

"//I do. What name is the play?//"

Charlie touches the guitar case beside his desk. It's never far away. "Organa mea."

[ooc: no problem, I've got the same thing.]

Max nods at the guitar case, respectfully. Charlie seems like a cool guy. He wonders if his guitar has a really dorky girl name.

Rubbing his temple, he shakes his head, saying, "//No name. Early. Process. To write.// [I'm sorry... I can't think very clearly. My head is killing me. It's these glasses.]"

He takes the glasses off and rubs his eyes savagely. Stupid wrong prescription.

Lowering his voice to a murmur, he adds, "But I really would like your expertise, if you wouldn't mind. Either for the board, or providing some scoring for it. I'm still writing it, but I'd be more than happy to show you what I'm coming up with... and you can decide if you're down with it or not. What do you say?"

"[Perhaps yhou should try contacts, mate.

Sure. I write music a lot. We'll give it a try, it'll be fun.]"

He clears his throat and says in Greek, "//Yes, you to help I am.//"
