World History in a Nutshell

It's back in the classroom this week and Daniel's looking a little worse for wear following the events of the weekend.

"Okay guys, today's going to be a revision session after you present what you each researched about the World War II homefront.

Go for it."

Evie Carnahan

Evie's not entirely prepared. She was kidnapped by trolls this weekend, even though she did preliminary research. So she decides to take a page from Dr. Covington's book. Literally.

"In the middle of World War II, the Nazis began searching for objects of parapsychic power. Hitler wanted proof that his thousand-year Reich would actually last that long. In their quest for assurance of their ascendancy, the Germans became interested in--" Evie took a breath. "The Ark of the Covenant."

"The, uh, Ark of the Covenant, Evie?" asked Daniel, frowning slightly. "I'm afraid I'm not so familiar with that."

Jim Ellison

Jim read in a monotone from his notes, then apparently went to sleep on his desk, almost running out of the classroom as soon as he could.

Daniel frowned slightly, but didn't say anything.

"It's the golden Ark built by Moses and the Israelites to hold the Ten Commandments!" Evie bounced in her chair, only a little subdued by this weekend's events. "And Hitler and his cohorts wanted it as a weapons." She smiled gleefully. "But they were outsmarted by an archaeologist!"

Daniel took off his glasses and cleaned them slowly. "They were? When was this? And, uh, where exactly?"

*is proud of Evie, mwahaha*

"In 1943, according to my sources." And let's just skip over how Evie's been using the Internet. "In Jordan. And rumor has it that the American O.S.S. took possession of it after one Dr. Indiana Jones used it to destroy an entire brigade of Nazis with the power of God!"

Daniel blinked. "And just how was the power of God manifested?" he asked. "It, uh, didn't have any Egyptian markings on it? Did it?"

Blair Sandburg

"It burned up all who looked at it," Evie said emphatically. "So Dr. Jones and Dr. Ravenswood closed their eyes, and when all the screaming stopped, the bodies were gone. And--" She refrained from saying 'of course not' since that would be rude. "I rather think the markings would be Hebrew, Dr. Jackson. Although I suppose there might be Egyptian, since it was supposed to be a post-Exodus artifact."

"Have any pictures of this artifact survived?" asked Daniel seriously. "And you only think it's Hebrew?"

Blair waited till after class. "Uh...I've sort of missed some classes, man. Is there any way I can do make-up work or am I screwed for the semester?"

[ooc: Monday nights are horrible for me and for some reason I've just missed seeing this class! *headdesk* ]

"The engravings I've seen are not specific enough to be certain. Except that there are two angels on the lid, holding their wings over it in protection," Evie said, wishing she'd checked a few more sources. "And it's made of gold." She grinned. "And it might be stored in Washington D.C.! At least, that's what the Lone Trigger website says."

Daniel looked up and smiled. "You're in no way screwed," said Daniel. "How about you and I have a sit down session one day and we'll go through all the work you missed -- I'm sure it won't take long -- and get you back on track for the final exam?"

[[ooc: No worries, I have absolutely the same problem with some of Liz's classes -- my Tuesdays are really bad, for example!]]

Daniel coughed. "The Lone Trigger website?" he asked sceptically. "And would it be an armoury in DC by any chance?"

Evie nodded in enthusiasm. "You know them! And yes! Well, perhaps a storehouse, not an armoury. They think it might be the Smithsonian's. Or the Jeffersonian's. Do you think we could ever visit there?"

"I think that would be a nice plan, definitely," said Daniel. "And you never know what the US government keeps in armouries, especially if they think that it's a weapon."

"That's totally awesome of you, man." Blair took a seat and sighed in relief. "I've been reading a lot, so it shouldn't take long. But even if it takes a while, I'm totally cool with hard work."

Daniel nodded. "Just let me know when's a good time for you," he said.

"Well, unlike the Smithsonian, we'd have to break into an armoury...." Evie's eyes went round. "But I'm sure they wouldn't let us do that on a field trip. Would they?"

"It's pretty hard to break into an armoury," said Daniel absent mindly. "Uh. Not that I've ever done that. I'd just presume that it'd be difficult. Yes."

*waves to really bad role model, bounces with joy*

"Wednesday?"

Hermione Granger

Hermione's been done with her presentation for a while, so the weekend hasn't affected her much. Her presentation is excessively thorough and kind of long.

Yasutora Sado

Chad's presentation was....concise. No spared word or unnecissary elaborations here, just the nice, neat facts about the trenches.

With the exception of the last bit: "Best thing to note about the trenches was I probably wouldn't fit in 'em. The End."

Cameron Mitchell

Daniel nodded. "That sounds great," he said.
