Intro to Magic, 5th Period (11/22/06)

"Okay, we were going to be talking about auras today, but it's the day before Thanksgiving. ~~And the player sucks and left her flash drive with the pre-written class on it at home.~~ So I don't know about you guys, but my brain? Kinda stuck on the whole turkey and stuffing and pie thing coming up tomorrow. Here are your options: You can take this as a free question and answer period, a study period, or we can talk about what we're thankful for. Or if there's anyone here that doesn't so much celebrate Thanksgiving, tell us what your favorite holiday is, and how you celebrate it."

OOC: No, seriously, I'm a dork. Auras are now on the schedule for next week. ~~Wait for the OCD, please!~~ Time to play.

What she was thankful for. That was tough. Lana sat quietly, wishing that today's class had been something easier. Like say, a really hard surprise test on things they hadn't covered yet.

Finally she just said, "I'm thankful for the friends I've made here."

"People here are pretty good," said Jenny, nodding. Lana was a little quieter than usual today. So maybe a change of topic in order? "Got any other favorite holidays? Maybe memories of past holidays you wanna share?"

"I..." Lana hesitated. "Holidays... aren't really my favorite times. My aunt and I, well, it was usually just us and we either didn't do much or we'd go to someone else's big party. And since she remarried..."

"I did have Thanksgiving back home at a friend's house last year. It was nice to be with friends."

Jenny nodded knowingly. "I'm not too big on most of them myself," she said. "So your aunt raised you?" Jenny half-waved her hand and then shrugged, a wry grin on her face. "Grandmother here. Lots of aunts and uncles and cousins, big family, but I don't know. I never got into Thanksgiving much. I think tomorrow it's gonna be me and my computer, and some serious quantities of Peking Duck outta Ching Tai. The freezer's already stocked with pumpkin pie gelato."

Lana nodded. "My parents were killed when I was three so it was just me and my aunt after that. But when she remarried, she... kind of moved on."

She looked a little wistful. "I always kind of wondered what it would be like to have a big family, always just kind of wished I had a family of my own. I think I'll just be here in my room for Thanksgiving."

"Family will do that kind of thing," said Jenny, smiling sympathetically. "Trust me, I don't get along with most of my relatives. Just ask Dr. Pevensie; the poor woman's met them. If you're not going to be doing anything, you can always come over to my apartment and hang out. ~~There's also that open to everyone thing we don't know about yet IC.~~ Trust me, there's enough pumpkin pie gelato for, ah--" She shrugged sheepishly. "A few people. Or so."

Lana looked surprised at the offer. "Really? You'd want me to join you?"

"If you're interested," said Jenny, grinning. "I mean, chances are good that there'll be football, take-out, and a whole lot of not much else going on. I've done the whole alone for Thanksgiving thing. Kinda sucks, don't you think?"

"Yeah, it does," Lana said. She nodded after a minute. "I think I'd like that. It would be nice not to be alone."

"Great!" said Jenny. "So, what time do you wanna show?"

Lana smiled. "What time do you want me? And can I bring anything? I really don't have anything at all planned, except maybe to go running in the morning."

"Since I can't cook to save my life, anything you can bring would be good," said Jenny. "I'll be around all day, except for maybe a walk around town myself."

Sakura made a funny face. "...In Japan we didn't exactly celebrate Thanksgiving, but I knew of it so I usually cooked a bunch of stuff for my dad and my brother anyway," She shrugged. "Or that could just be because I like to cook. In terms of what I'm thankful for?" She paused. "...pretty much, everything. My dad and my brother, all the people I've met here..." She steepled her fingers. "And even if I seem like a truant because I forget to come to class a lot of times, I like the classes, too."

Typical geeky response, Sakura.

Jenny laughed. "So you're fairly hopeless on the schoolwork front?" she asked. "What kinds of things did you cook? Anything different for Thanksgiving than for normal days?"

"There isn't a Thanksgiving where I come from, either ~~and as far as my canon goes, we don't even have our own holidays~~," Alphonse said a little awkwardly. The differences were always a bit strange. "... But I am thankful, for a lot of things. Mostly for the friends I have, both here and at home."
