Criminal Justice [first period, Tuesday 11/21]

"Uh, hey," Dean said, standing at the front of the class. "V's busy off doing something.... V-like so that means I guess I'm running the class today." He held up a piece of paper. "He did leave notes on what we're supposed to do today so I can't just make up something wacky to make you do instead.

"We're supposed to pick a cause we'd be willing to fight for and give our lives to and start figuring out a plan on how to, and I'm quoting, 'seek personal justice.' Which I guess means figure out who the bad guys are, then decide how to blow them away before they blow away you first. So, um, get with your partner and see what you can come up with." Dean looked like he was finished, but then added, "Oh and if your partner's not here, I guess just pair up with someone else or you can work solo I guess."

"I'm alive, all bruises are already healed, and I'm back here," Peter said. "That's close enough to okay, I think."

That sounds a little evasive to her, but she knows better than to push. "Glad you're back."

"I am definitely glad to be back," Peter said. "Anyway, do you have an idea for a cause?"

"A few, but it might be a little personal for class," she says. "Do you have anything?'

"Well, my personal cause is not letting anyone be hurt if I can stop it in any way," Peter said. "That's kind of my personal justice."

"Good justice," Aeryn nods. "Do you have a specific example?"

"Back home I tend to run around, looking for any crimes. Then I punch the people committing them," Peter said. "It's kind of general, unfortunately."

She nods. "My experience is the opposite, but I have to be given the order and then go on that. It takes something away from the 'personal' part of the justice."

"People have died when I chose not to act," Peter said. "People who are important to me. It can't get much more personal to me."

"I've been lucky there," she says. Though there's a little part that nags at her at that.

"That's good," Peter said. "It's pretty much the worst kind of motivation to have, but it really is very effective."
