The desks have been separated from their usual formation into three groups, each one labelled. To the far side of the room four desks are set aside, marked "Manticore"; in the center, "Twelve Colonies"; and closest to the door, "Earth." The sign-in sheet is on the desk. Only this time, aside from simply providing a place for the students to sign in, it also provides the role each student will play:

As the bell sounded, signaling the beginning of class, Laura regarded the students with a wry smile. "Today, we begin looking at how everything fits together -- with systems that likely will never have contact with one another. Each of you has a role assignment. Your first order of business, in each cell, will be to allocate the budget accordingly. I'll collect these once you've completed them, and they will set the pace for how quickly -- or slowly -- you react to variables. Manticore and the Colonies," she said, holding up a sheet, "you'll use this sheet." She held up a different sheet, looking to the U.S. representatives. "Earthers, you'll be using this sheet.

"Rory, you'll be our resident free-agent. You'll be covering major developments across all three -- sort of like a cable news network."

She lowered the sheets and placed them on the desk behind her. "Now, get acquainted and get started. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I'll try to play any additional roles you find you need as the simulation progresses."

Anders sat and waited for his group, looking far too perplexed, yet amused, at being designated military/intelligence.

Because seriously. That was so the farthest thing from what he would ever be cut out to do.

"Military, huh?" Cally teased.

Anders made a face at her. "Apparently class today involves a little bit of comedy."

"Yeah, well, do I look like politician material to you?" Cally said.

"Okay, point." Anders doodled a little bit in the margins of his notes, then looked over the budget matrix sheet and shook his head. "I'm gonna be the cheapest military budgeter ever. ~~It'll be good practice for my future.~~"

"What, going to start using... cigarettes for fuses?" Cally teased.

That idea was so far out there that Anders had to laugh. "Maybe. If I ever manage to pull that one off, you never get to harass me about smoking again."

Cally stuck out her tongue. "That's okay. Now I have shower habits to harass you about."

Anders dropped his pen. "You have what?"

"Shower buddies?" Cally gave Anders a look.

"Who told you anything about that?" Anders had picked up his pen, but now, instead of dropping it, he nearly snapped it and sent it flying across the room instead.

"You practically proclaimed it to the world on the roof yesterday!"

"But!" Anders flailed a little. "There wasn't anybody up there but me and . . . oh my gods."

"Well, after I heard that I wasn't gonna stick around!" Cally said. "Cause even while it may give Isabel and I happy mental images, guh! Bad Anders! No! No sexing the demon in the shower! Gah!"

Okay, probably not the best topic to discuss in class.

"We didn't! Not in the shower!" Anders blurted out as he turned bright red, only to have all the blood drain from his face in the next second once he realized his classmates might've heard.

Cally's eyes bugged. "But you DID?!"

Anders was panicking a little, and hissed through his teeth, "I'm not supposed to say!"

Cally stammered for a second, her face flushed. Then stood up.

"Miss Roslin, may I please be excused for a minute?"

. . .

"Oh, you have got to be kidding me."

"If I don't splash some water on my face, I'm liable to faint," Cally whispered.

Anders beat his forehead into the desk a couple of times. "I cannot believe you actually think that's hot."

Elizabeth grinned at him as she took her seat. "Intelligence, huh, Anders?" she asked.

"Looks like. What were you thinking, Madam President?" Anders teased.

Elizabeth's answering smile was slightly wicked, before she coughed slightly. "Oh, nothing much," she said. "Just that we're going to need more than sports stats here."

"Hey, I can think in terms other than sports," Anders protested, laughing.
